Friends of Dorothy!

British Cruise Lines Match Milestones As First To Allow Same Sex Weddings Onboard

So I recently confirmed a Royal Caribbean cruise for a customer and his Husband. They are relatively new to the cruise market (excuse the pun) and as you can imagine he had plenty of general questions about the cruise such as activities and entertainment.

In recent years the habit of using the friend of label has been increased to also include:  Friends of Dorothy (FOD). With most cruise lines now catering for the LGBT market including a LGBT Community Mixer at the Champagne Bar on the Independence of the seas where like minded guests can meet for beverages.

Over the last 25 years you have had companies such as Atlantis events and RSVP cruises specifically cater for the LGBT market. However over more recent years these 2 cruise companies have grown so much in size that they completely sell out of all their cabins on all of there itineraries. So as you can imagine the LGBT cruise market has increasingly grown over the last 10 years. And speaking from experience I have travel twice with Atlantis cruises and they are well worth the money, as they can be very expensive. And there is something for everyone on-board with themed parties, fancy dress, soft entertainment in he piano lounge as well as famous acts on stage. Such as the late Debbie Reynolds.

So with the LGBT market growing rapidly and cruise lines widely accepting LGBT guests and also welcoming LGBT weddings at sea. Should there be more companies out there offering LGBT cruises. Atlantis mainly cater for the US and Caribbean itineraries whereas RSVP has now reached out to explore the European market and itineraries.

However, if you are looking for the more relaxing style of cruise I certainly would not recommend Atlantis or RSVP cruises as these are pretty much party fueled. Perhaps someone like P and O cruises may be worth looking into as these are geared up to the British market and have more of a relaxed feel on-board.

So if you are looking to get a cruise booked, why not contact me for further details on 0800 408 6116 or [email protected] – Just to inform you Atlantis and RSVP cruises can only be booked directly with them and not through us.
