The third 3,936-passenger vessel in the company’s Vista class series will join the Carnival Corporation US-based line in late 2019.

As a result, Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Splendor will be transferred to P&O Cruises Australia at the same time.

The name of the new ship, under contract with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, will be announced at a later date together with its home-port and itinerary details

Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said: “We are truly thrilled to have another Vista class ship joining our fleet,”

With CLIA this week predicting cruise passengers rising by 10 million in its 2017 ‘State of the Cruise Industry Outlook’, which states increase in cruise travel is expected to continue throughout 2017.

An estimated 25.3 million passengers will sail next year, a strong surge from 15.8 million just 10 years ago in 2007.

President and chief executive of Clia, Cindy D’Aoust: said: “The cruise industry is responding to global demand and we are highly encouraged by both the short-term and long-term outlook.

More and more ships are being built, unfortunately (for some) due to demand the ships are also getting bigger and bigger. Do you think we are losing the idea of cruising? Are they now just a floating village? Would you prefer to cruise on a small ship, or are you happy with large ship as it has more facilities?

Either way, what is good news is that the industry is going from strength to strength and long mat that continue.
