It’s What’s On The Inside That Matters!

This week Princess Cruises have revealed the new look livery for their brand new ship Majestic Princess. And here it is…..

Princess livery

The cruise line’s logo is featured on the hull and the plan is to roll the same livery out to the rest of the fleet over the next few years. The Majestic Princess has been built & designed specifically for the Chinese market, so when she enters service in 2017 will be whisked away from the shipyard in Italy over to her home port of Shanghai to show off her shiny new paintwork.

Other cruise lines have certainly made waves (excuse the pun) over the years daring to be different and brightening the exterior of the ships to give them a distinctive look. Norwegian Cruise Line stand out as one of the first to jazz up the hulls of their vessels. Visually, the ships are certainly eye-catching and individual. Back in 2002 the Norwegian Dawn was the first ship in the fleet to have a hull adorned with its signature brightly coloured paint which has led to specially commissioned artwork  on the hulls of subsequent ships to join the fleet.

Only last year P&O launched their flagship Britannia with much pomp and ceremony and unveiled a very patriotic design on her which also is set to spread through the rest of the fleet. The  Britannia is proudly displaying the Union Flag in the Caribbean in Winter and around Europe in Summer.

In all honesty I’m not a big fan of these loud designs. They certainly make a statement, make the ship look modern and give them an identity, but I think the sight of a sleek white ship sailing on the glistening sea is a beautiful thing and not something that needs to be messed around with. Call me old fashioned, but that’s just my personal opinion. More importantly it’s what goes on on the inside of the ship that matters. If I’m receiving superb service with a smile, eating delicious food, watching great entertainment and sipping lovingly mixed cocktails you could paint the hull every colour of the rainbow and I wouldn’t care a jot!

What do you think of the new Princess livery or any of the others for that matter? I’d love to hear your comments.
