Flashback to the 1980’s

Being born in the early 70’s, as a teenager my era of music was the 1980’s. Although I do like more modern music, sadly I seem to be stuck in that decade as far as my favourite music memories go.

This year so far I have been to see Rick Astley and Erasure in concert & I also went to Let’s Rock in Leeds which is a fantastic 1 day festival for 80’s junkies like myself.  We were treated to performances by The Human League, Tony Hadley, Howard Jones and Hue & Cry to name but a few of the acts.  The bonus is there’s no need to camp and (touch wood) the 2 years I have been we’ve been blessed with fantastic weather! I am a lifelong fan of Deacon Blue and have seen them many times & next year I have booked to see Go West, Nik Kershaw and The Cutting Crew.

Some may think I am rather sad forever living in my musical past, however it appears I am not alone in my love of 80’s music as there are several companies who now offer 80’s music themed cruises.  I have read that Bonnie Tyler is making an appearance on Oasis of the Seas to sing her classic song ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ on the cruise that actually sails during an eclipse. Read more about that here. There are 2 cruises in 2018 sailing from Southampton with Royal Caribbean on Navigator of the Seas that also celebrate 80’s music. The one that appeals to me is on the 6th of May with artists Tony Hadley, Go West, ABC, Kim Wilde and Paul Young due to perform as well as others. It doesn’t appear that they are having any trouble filling the cabins as the insides are full already & the rest of the cabins are on low availability!
