New Cunard Ship Springs A Leak

When a new ship is due to be launched there is always much speculation about what the name will be for the new vessel. The cruise lines like to generate lots of hoo-ha around it as it helps to generate lots of publicity which in turn helps fill up the cabins. Last year P&O actually invited the public to vote for the name of their new ship, which ended up being named Iona, after the beautiful Scottish island. but you need to beware of the choices made by Joe Public. We all remember the furore around the poll on BBC Radio Jersey to pick a name for a new polar exploration ship. The name Boaty McBoatface won out, but sadly the owners thought that this name wasn’t suitable and eventually named it the Sir David Attenborough.

Cunard have ordered their first ship since the Queen Elizabeth in 2010. The ship is due to be launched in 2022, however it looks like someone has sprung a leak, naming the ship as Queen Anne on a website. Rumours are rife in the cruise world now as to whether someone has dropped a clanger and leaked the name. If it is true and whoever it is is that leaked the name is found out I’m sure there will be a P45 winging it’s way to them. It does sound a very likely choice for the new ship as the names of the suites on the Queen Mary 2 are Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria, Queen Anne and Queen Mary.

The website that it was named on was one that keeps a record of all cruise ships that are either currently under construction or are on order & is generally a very factual site. Cunard are due to make an announcement of some sort on the 1st of November, so I wonder whether it will be linked to this? It may be that they have been forced in to announcing the name earlier than they had originally intended.
