Turkish Delight

I have just come back from a great week in Turkey. So many people thought I was crazy before we went. I was told it was not safe by so many people you know what? They were all wrong!

Turkey has really suffered this year with visitor numbers down on the last few years. There have been problems in Turkey this year with bomb attacks in Istanbul and the recent coup. I spoke to locals and they didnt even know why or how the coup happened but again it was in Istanbul. The holiday resorts are hours away from where the trouble happened. It would be like an incident happening in London and saying no way am I going to Aberdeen something might happen!

We stayed just outside Bodrum. It was so easy to travel around we would jump on the local dolmus (mini bus) for just 80p. Bodrum was a large resort with an upscale marina, old castle fortress, lots of bars & restaurants and a huge grand bazaar market.

We took a trip to the largest market in the area Turgetries this is where you find all your genuine fakes! They also had a huge spice market. My husband being a chef was in his element we have already cooked with some of the spices we brought home.

We also took a traditional Gulet trip. These are boats traditional to Turkey. Charlie had so much fun, jumping in the sea off the boat, snorkeling for fish and even catching a few. This was a bargain at £15 for the day including lunch and all drinks.

** NO fish were harmed!! They went back in the Sea as they were too small for dinner!

One of the days we went into Bodrum we saw the Celebrity Reflection in port. If you do happen to cruise into Bodrum there is no need for a trip really. There is lots to see in Bodrum and you can easily walk from the port right into the centre in no time.

If you have been thinking about Turkey but have been put off by the media dont be! We had a fantastic week and are already planning our trip back next year.
