The Edge To Visit Britain

Sounds like a pop star doesn`t it? Or that guy on Top Gear – The Stig! This is neither though. The Edge is Celebrity Cruises new  ground breaking ship. Due to be launched in 2018 it has just been announced that she will sail from Southampton to Barcelona on 15th May 2019 for a ten night voyage. She will sail the Mediterranean in 2019 with 19  sailings out of Rome and Barcelona and will call in at Portofino, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Ibiza and Santorini during the summer season.

Carrying just over 2900 passengers, to quote Celebrity the ship is set to change everything ” The way you experience the world; the way you connect with the ocean; the way you play, dine and unwind at sea. Revolutionary on every level, she’s the ship that’s setting a new standard of luxury and innovation at sea.”

Well quite often when a new ship is launched there are supposedly lots of new and exciting features but this time it looks like this ship is going to be very different. It is very difficult to look at everything as she is not built yet but one area that looks really interesting is the cabin’s. They might sound the same as any other Celebrity ship but  look closer and they are actually very different.

The inside and outside staterooms are pretty much like any other, although they appear to be beautifully decorated. However the balconies are unique, they remind me very much of balconies cabins on some of the top class river cruise boats. All Aqua, Concierge and some balcony grades will feature Infinite balconies. The glass window which leads outside to the balcony will slide back at the touch of a button so that the whole room, in effect, will be part of the balcony. Some of the suite grades will also feature their own private swimming pool !

The other really intriguing thing is the Magic Carpet Restaurant which will move between floors up and down the starboard side of the ship – sounds fab but possibly not for the faint hearted !
