Its Christmas – Well Almost !

My Christmas celebrations started early this year as I took a break from Cruise.co.uk for a trip to the little village of Hunmanby in Yorkshire last Friday for a few days. This was a long weekend to celebrate my friend Sue`s 50th birthday with a group of friends.

The South Wing of Hunmaby Hall was our home from Friday until yesterday and it is a lovely old building, now converted into apartments of various sizes. Hunmanby lies directly between Scarborough and Bridlington, looking down on the sea side resort of Filey.  The Village is surrounded by stunning scenery and beautiful landscapes and was once the largest village in England. It is also close by the two pretty villages of Malton and Pickering, well worth a visit as both have lovely shops.

The highlight of the weekend was Saturday night when we celebrated Sue`s birthday with a Murder Mystery Dinner. My character was Marlene Deepdicth and I`m pleased to say I wasn`t the culprit, that honour fell to Maurice de Cheval! It was a brilliant evening enjoyed by us all, especially as the South Wing of Hunmamby Hall has a really beautiful oak panelled dining room where we had dinner.

The village itself is lovely , if a little like stepping back in time. A short walk through the grounds takes you right onto the village where there are lovely local shops and a couple of pubs.We had to try one of the pubs, of course, and it was just like local pubs used to be – friendly,  welcoming and cheap !

Soon the weekend came to an end but I still have a few days holiday left before I am back to the office next  Sunday morning.
