What Weekends Are For!

Well Summer is here which means there is usually a lot going on with holidays, days out and spending time with family and friends. It has certainly been a busy start to the Summer for me and the calendar has  already taken a beating with lots going on over the last couple of weeks. I started the month with  4 nights away with a friend at her apartment in Fuerteventura. We flew out on 28th June and returned on 2nd July and had a lovely time chilling and relaxing although it was very very hot.

The apartment is  in a little place called Neuvo Horizonte about 20 minutes walk from Caleta de Fuste on the east coast of the island and only 10 minutes by car from the airport. As she is a fitness instructor she said she would take me to the gym, but this want quite what I had in mind!

The following week  my  nephew  returned from Sydney, where he was studying at Sydney University as part of his sports Science degree. He had been away for a year so on 9th July my sister had a party to welcome him home. This was a lovely evening with friends and family but the hangover the next day wasn’t so good. Everone has the last laugh when myself and 2 friends  all turned up dressed in the same colours. This was not intended I can assure you.

Last weekend was a highlight for me, I went to my first festival at the age of 53! I have been to lots and lots of concerts and shows but this was my first 2 day event. This was the Flashpoint Festival at Rockingham Castle. This remarkable Castle has been the home of the Watson Family for 450 years and prior to that was owned by the Crown. This is one of the few homes that has been continuously owned by the same family. Only being a 5 minute walk from home was a bonus too as had the fun of the festival but a nice comfy bed to come home to and a hot shower too. Saturday afternoon playing was Una Healey from the Saturdays, Hue and Cry, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Gabrielle, Marc Almond and headlining was Deacon Blue. Sunday playing was Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, The Christians, The Lightening Seeds, K T Tunstal, ABC and headlining were OMD.

Deacon Blue were amazing on the Saturday night but the highlight for me had to be OMD. The played all their hits that everyone knew and of course had to end with Electricity.

This weekend I am off to York to meet up with one of my colleagues Nicola and we are having a night out and staying overnight. I think what goes on in York will stay in York if any of out past times together are anything to go by! I hope everyone else is having a fun packed Summer as much as I am!
