Amazing Cuisine in Qsine and more!

If you have read my last blog you will know that I have recently returned from a cruise to the Fjords on Celebrity Eclipse. I’d like to tell you about the food and dining experience that I had on board and I most definitely wasn’t disappointed.

We were on the fixed dining at 8.30pm in the Moonlight Sonata Dining Room which a beautiful 2 level dining room over decks 3 and 4. Every night there was a different menu but there was also a section that offered the same every night. French Onion Soup and Caesar Salad were 2 of the options offered for a starter and I have to admit this is what I chose between every night. The Main courses and Deserts also had a good choice but with the everyday menu available too which offered Steak and Ice Cream every day (not together of course!) Breakfast and Lunch was also available here from 8.00am until 9.30pm and 12.00 noon and 1.30pm respectively.

Lunch is available here from 12.00 noon until 2.30pm and then Afternoon Tea follows this. Evening Dinner is also available here for those that don’t want to do the formal Dining and is available from 6.00pm until 9.30 pm. And for those that might still be hungry the Chefs late night selection was available from 10.00pm. Breakfast can also be served in your cabin at no extra cost from a good selection

Blu and Luminae are other dining options on board but Blu is exclusively for passengers in Aqua Class and Luminae is for Suite Guests so of course we didn’t get to experience these.

There are 4 Speciality Dining Restaurants on board with varying cuisine. Murano is contemporary French Cuisine and is open in the evenings from 6.00pm until 10.00pm. Sushi on 5 is a Modern Japanese Restaurant and is open for lunch from 11.30am until 3.00pm and then in the evenings is open from 6.00pm until 11.00pm.  Tuscan Grill which is a contemporary Italian is open in the evenings from  6.00pm until 11.00pm. These all carry a cover charge and can also be purchased as a meal package so that you can experience 2 or more of these restaurants.

We booked into Qsine and this was the highlight of the dining for us. It is based on a Tapas concept and all the food is ordered on an I-Pad. The very attentive waiter explained what to do and advised that people normally choose between 3 and 5 things to share. This was our first schoolboy error having not seen what the portion sizes was first! Once we had selected our choices he put then into the order he thought we should have them. There was a very good reason for this which soon became apparent.  We chose Tacos to start with which came with all the ingredients to make your own guacamole. This was good fun and I left the honors to my husband. The second course we had chosen was Fillet Mignon which came accompanied by our third choice which was Crunchie Munchies. This was a stand will 6 different sorts of chips and crisps. There were regular fries, sweet potato fries, potato croquettes, crisps, lattice crisps and roast potatoes.Image may contain: 1 person, phone

As you can imagine we were just about at bursting point by now and still had 2 courses to go plus desert! Round 4 was a Chicken  Skewered Kebab in a Yogurt Dressing. This consisted of 3 chicken breasts on a skewer and was the biggest skewered kebab I had ever seen. We had to show willing though and managed to eat a piece each. Round 5 was Meatballs and it soon became apparent why the waiter left these till last. We were presented with 3 meatballs, one was chicken, one beef and one veal in different sauces. I had never seen meatballs the size of grapefruits before and we didn’t even put a dent in them. If these had been the first course it would have been over before we began.

There is always enough room for desert though and these was chosen from a Rubix Cube!. We went for the Chocolate Tombstone and the Desert Surprise. This was exactly what it said as you don’t know what it is until they bring it to the table. As it happens it was a lovely desert of soaked cherries in a sauce with Ice-cream which was amazing.

All of this was only £42.00 a head which i think was great value for 6 courses The overall experience was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone and although we didn’t manage to eat all of the courses it was great to be able to sample so much different food.
