Single Misery

Why is it that Cruise lines get away with charging so much extra for Single passengers?

Just in the last week I have had 5 enquiries for various cruises with the likes of P&O, Royal Caribbean, Fred Olsen and Cruise and Maritime and the single price has been double the cost.  In fact 2 were actually more than double which is just ludicrous.

Customers see a deal and ring like one person did for the Baltics at £950 per person for a 2 week voyage and the when I checked for one the price was £1880. £20 off the price for 2.

Another one had a single inside cabin available. The cruise was advertised from £1200 per person for 2 sharing so what was the single cabin which said no supplements.  It was £1599. There was no supplement but the price was higher to start with? Why?

Would you like to Tell him he has to pay double??

The definition of Discrimination is:

Making or showing an unfair or prejudicial distinction between different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.’

Surely this is discrimination against Single passengers. Most of whom have no option to travel alone as they have lost partners or cannot find a friend who can travel at the same time of them or wants to. I have lost count of the time I have been told my a cruise line that if they can get someone to go with them the price will only be £XXX.  Why should they have to bring a friend?

It causes so much ill feeling from Customers and I can appreciate why.

So what do you think?

Is it about time the Cruise lines got this sorted.  The cruise lines will say they are losing out on sales as another passenger would spend money on board for drinks etc. However the same is the case for Hotels and most Hotels change between 10% and 25% for a single room so why are cruise supplements so expensive.

Most single cruisers are ok about paying a bit more and appreciate they will have to but 100% extra is taking the mickey to put it politely.

I would love to hear your stories regarding this. Perhaps you got a great deal or perhaps you were charged more than the 100%.  Let me know your thoughts on this subject.
