My visit to the New Forest….

I was lucky enough to enjoy a two night break last week in the New Forest….a birthday present which I have to say was very nice. It was lovely to get a way as a family, something I have to say we don’t do often enough but we’re going to start doing more of.

It’s the first time I’ve ever visited the New Forest and it was so beautiful, I was blown away by the scenery and the landscape.  I think I spend so much time talking about wonderful places in the world I forget just how beautiful our own country is. We stayed in really lovely lodge hotel, just minutes away from a pretty little town called Lyndhurst. A perfect place to relax….well that’s if you aren’t travelling like us with a four year old!

Sofia my little girl loves the outdoors so being in the New Forest was great for her….she loves animals and there were donkeys, ponies and cows walking freely on the side of the roads…I read that the New Forest has the largest remaining area of unenclosed farm land…hence all the animals wandering free.

The New Forest is the perfect place to get away from it all, to go for long walks or perhaps cycling. I have to say we did lots of walking and really just enjoyed being out in the middle of nowhere. In the little towns scattered around  we found some fantastic local restaurant and pubs. We stumbled across a local pub with a Brew Room…serving lots of different local beers, an enjoyable afternoon for Martin sampling them all!

We visited a nearby town called Lymington and found Lymington Yacht Haven with some really fabulous yachts…how the other half live! Chatting to one of the locals he told us that the marina won Coastal Marina of the year 2016….and very proud he was too. The town was full of little shops and bars, with cobbled streets and lots of local charm. The weather was kind to us, with the sun at least trying to warm us up. I think that’s one of the draw backs going on holiday in the UK…the weather. We waited until the end of April thinking it would be lovely and warm and sunny but the weather had other ideas…at least we didn’t get the snow like they did back home in Manchester.
