Although we’ve been on 8 cruises in the past, we cruised from Southampton for the first time this year (end May out/back early June). Our first stop was Madeira. On the day after leaving Southampton (when we crossed the Bay of Biscay) it was too cold to be outside so it didn’t really matter what we wore as we were inside all the time. We just wore clothes like we would normally wear in the UK on a fairly cool Summer’s day. After the first day it was lovely and warm and OK to wear shorts, etc. On the return journey, again just the last day was cooler, though we were able to sit outside wearing a fleece top (it was the cold wind that was the problem). So I would suggest taking some warmer clothes for 2 days – layers are a good idea. Hope this helps.

WE DID OUR 1ST 2 WEEK CRUISE AROUND THE MED THE FIRST WEEK IN JULY LAST YEAR, AND CAN HONESTLY SAY IT WAS VERY WARM WHEN WE LEFT SOUTHAMPTON, AND WE MANAGED WITH JUST T SHIRTS. MAYBE A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE A LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET OR CARDIGAN OF SORTS - SEEM TO REMEMBER THAT ONE OF THE FIRST FEW DAYS AT SEA THERE WAS VERY BAD FOG AND IT WAS QUITE WINDY - BUT NOT THAT COLD TO BE BOTHERED. IN ALL HONESTY, THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON ON THE SHIP YOU WONT BE BOTHERED IF THE WEATHER ISNT THAT BRILLIANT. ONCE YOU TURN THE CORNER FOR THE MED, IT SHOULD BE WARM ENOUGH. YOU'LL LOVE IT THOUGH - ENJOY!!

Hi We sailed from Sothampton on Sunday May 10th and it was nice, although its prudent to take a lightweight jacket for on deck in the evening as its sometimes a bit cool until you turn the corner for the Med, although this time of year it should be warm enough. The person from Bexhill mentioned the Champagne sailaway which is lovely if you get one, unfortunately it seems to be one of the things that P&O have cut back on, and when we and Artemis left Southampton in May there was no band as in days of old we just slunk out of port even without a toot from our ships horn ( which is one of the best ) Its a lovely trip down the Solent so go topside with your camera, I am sure you will enjoy your cruise.

I have recently returned from a cruise back and forth from Southampton. The weather was very good and summer clothing was needed. Just take a stole or lightweight jacket if you are outside at night time. I have found that you cannot always enjoy sunshine or warmth on a balcony while the ship is at sea. Have a great time.

Hi, Just make sure you've got a cardi, you'll probably find the airconditioning colder than the deck. At any rate, as you are sailing from southampton, you haven't got the wieght restriction you get on flights, so take a little of everything.PS Don't miss the champagne sailaway, and band at sothampton docks side.

You should expect nice weather but never really sure.But on the Vetura they have a nice deck where they blow warm air down the deck very pleasent if it should be a bit chilly.

Most ports of call will be around 30 degrees however as with most places in the world the weather can be very unpredictable. Last year in Pompii we had hail stones in mid summer.

We sailed from southampton on Sea Princess last year on 18th July and the weather was 70degrees as we left Southampton at 5.00. the next couple of days were the same except for a cool breeze across the decks. Biscay was flat with no swell at all. Through to Cadiz and the temp got hotter and the trip to seville was very nice but temp was up to 38degrees and never got lower than 33degrees the whole trip. My husband went in casual trousers and a nice shirt and I put on crop pants and a nice t-shirt to travel to S/hampton in and then we both changed to shorts which I had packed in my hand luggage and slapped on a bit of suntan lotion. You may get an occasional shower but take a lightweight jacket with you and a pashmina for the dining room as temps can be cooler........Hope this helps.......Wendy.

We sailed in August from Southampton to the Med and the weather was glorious both on the outward and return journeys. Although sunny on the return, there was quite a swell coming through the Bay of Biscay. As Limbach says, it is hit and miss.

The weather to and from the Med is hit and miss. It can be glorious, but also wet and windy. Just go with the 'I am going to enjoy it' attitude and you will, whatever the weather. Last summer we cruised from Rome and the weather was marvellous all cruise, but previous cruises from Southampton, we have had very mixed weather and we chose this option, this year, as it's so stress free.
