Thanks people, I booked through a travel agent, they did not know, they rang RCI who advised we ring their visa agent, as they were not sure either, I guess next time i cruise I go with Princess.

We have recently returned from a Far East cruise with Princess. We visited Hong Kong (no visa required for British passport holders), Dalian, Shanghai and Beijing. We were advised by Princess that a single entry visa was required - I assume because we did not leave Chinese waters. Just some additional advice - it is cheaper to use the Chinese Embassy's Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (www.visaforchina.org.uk) than any of the agencies. You can either visit their office at Holborn Viaduct or deal with them by mail, but full information is given on their website. However, I would agree with Paul that you need to contact RCI regarding the exact requirements for your particular cruise. If you do not have the correct documentation you could be refused boarding or, as happened to some passengers on our cruise, be offloaded before reaching China. Princess were excellent with their pre-cruise information and I would assume that RCI will be the same. Enjoy your cruise - it really is a fascinating part of the world.

We are going on a Far East cruise with Princess in February, so I was interested to read your reply. One question for you - how far in advance of the cruise did Princess give you the information about Visas?

Like you, we sailed in February (Ocean Princess) and we received visa information from Princess at the beginning of December. We used the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre which was approximately half the cost of the charges made by the visa agency recommended by Princess. If I remember correctly, we paid £129 for the two of us. If you are visiting Vietnam, the visa is issued on board ship and $30 per person is charged to your on board account. Our passports were kept by the Purser's office for most of the cruise for immigration formalities, and Princess issued all passengers with photocopies to take ashore. With regard to entry into Japan, the immigration authorities came on board and we were given a time to report for clearance. This meant an early morning but only happens at the first port of call. Throughout the cruise we were given comprehensive information regarding formalities required at each port of call. Hope this helps - sorry to be so long winded!!!!! Most of all, enjoy your cruise.

When it comes to visa information it's best to be on the safe side and contact your cruise company. All the visa info should be sent to you well in advance in your 'pre cruise' documentation.
