Q: Sadly, one of the four in our group is having to undergo an operation and not able to travel on the 5th Dec 2009. We have all paid and ready for going but would rather wait until the ill one is better (2010?) Our insurance will not cover us. what are the options whilst waiting for the consultants prognosis???? Did it happen to you????

Check cancellation terms on your booking - you may only lose your deposit. As for insurance - depends on what it says in the policy - I would have this double checked if you have not done so already.

Strange that your policy will not cover an illness in your immediate party....

Maybe the ill person is a friend rather than a family member? Does insurance usually cover cancellation of a trip unless it is a close relative?

Hmm- I always buy from Travelex and they will cover me for up to four family members or Travel companions, should they have to cancel for a covered reason (illness)

Could you not transfer to another cruise at a later date. There will be an admin fee involved if you do but it may be less than your losses if you cancel. You need to your travel agent ASAP, also bearing in mind the info given by Bill & Neil below...Brian

Well a long shot but you are travelling at one of the times of the year when others will be looking for a cruise so contact your travel agent and see if they can get Princess to sell your holiday on whilst they hold your cash until you can sort out another date, but a bit of a long shot but if you don't ask you won't get...Bill

Hate to disagree with you Bill but Dec 5th is not a busy time of yeat and most of the cruise lines drop their prices to get more custom at this pre-Christmas time.

Your insurance should have covered you but, as you say it doesn't, so next time certainly try a different insurance company.

I would suggest that you look at your Rules and Conditions for Princess because I am sure that even though you have paid the full amount, ( I understand that is what you have done) you should, if you cancel now only loose your deposit and you will only lose that amount up to 56 days before the cruise so think about that then if you decide to cancel do this by notifying your agent and Princess in writing before that 56 day mark. .......Neil
