Nield - Answered a Question by Nield (17 Mar 08 21:08)

My tour operator (Cruise.com) advised me to get a taxi when I arrived at the terminal. What is happening.

Burfoot - Answered a Question by Nield (06 Mar 08 16:22)

You cannot pre book a taxi for NY. the crusie terminal in Brooklyn is too new for most cab drivers to even know where it is!! You should be able to easily arrange a coach transfer to manhattan from the terminal through your travel agent. otherwise your travel agent or cunard can arrange a private hire car for about $100-$200 (I think that is the price!) However, saying that, most local cabbies will know when the big ships dock, so picking up a cab locally shouldn't be a problem, but for peace of mind for yourself i would defintly book a coach or a private hire car through your travel agent. we had no problem getting transfers on the 2 occasions we sailed with qm2. both of these were booked through victoria travel / www.CRUISE.co.uk. hope this helps.

Burfoot is spot on most New Yorks Taxi drivers do not know where South Brooklyn is. We got hailed a taxi he stopped allowed us to get into his cab then less than 1 minute later apologised and kicked us out due to not knowing where Red Hook was. Thankfully, another taxi driver knew where to take us and I am sure charged us no more than $15 which was fair and cheap. He did a great job and we boarded QM2 and a great voyage to the UK. Travel agents can be a pain and may not want to sorth this for you, but hey, watch what they charge.

cunane - Answered a Question by Nield (25 Mar 08 14:26)

I would definatly arrange somthing before you arrive either through your agent or from the voyage information that is sent to before you leave you can also book transport through the tour desk on the ship .. YES all types of transport will be a little expensive .I have done this transatlantic crossing many times the worst thing about the voyage is the standing in line waiting to get a cab into town or back to the AIRPORT.. remember there will be well over a thousand or so dissembarking ALL WITH THE SAME IDEA ! not a way to end all that five star service you have just received.. go on and splash out I know it might cost you but you have peace of mind knowing you have some sort of confirmed transport to get you into town ( cut down on two bots of wine) good luck' Paul ( PS you asked the question FROM THE SHIP .. the other way around there is not the same problem.
