It's normal practice to tip in the currency of the 'ship', but personnaly I use whatever currency I have available at the end of cruise, could even be a mixture!

You could take out the option of what currency by adding it to your cabin account so long as you are happy with the staff you are going to sign off with this option. As you are in the Caribbean the option should be dollars as that is what will be most readily accepted ashore.

If you tip in the currency prevelant in the islands (US $ or Eastern Carribean $) then they do not lose money in exchange rates. However Wilba is right. A mix of the currency you have left topping up with sterling if need be, is fine. Would you turn down free money?

Best Low Cost CruisesSince the advent of low-cost airlines, savvy travellers have come to realise that no-frills doesn’t mean no-satisfaction. Indeed, what is often perceived as prudent when it comes to air travel also holds true in cruising. Most British cruise lines would recoil in horror at being termed ‘budget’ so keep in their good books I will term them Low Cost. There is a wealth of affordable voyages available if you know where to look. Over-capacity in cruising hot-s...

Silversea was not meant to be!

By Barbara Hopley

Barbara Hopley's blog

On Monday 22 May I was booked to go on a ship visit of the ‘Silver Whisper’ by Silversea Cruises. That’s how dedicated I am to see as many ships as possible as so much easier to sell when you have seen them.I had been looking forward to seeing this ship as have never seen a Silversea ship, it had been booked for a few weeks and I made my arrangements at home ...
