To be honest,you booked the cruise.You must have known about gratuities?So how can it spoil your holiday?
No we didnt, as the other cruises we have been on they have been included.
Well,they are included with this cruise also.
only difference is you can remove them if you wish.

I think the booking process usually doesn't include much, if anything, about tipping, though there is probably information about it in the small print. Most people know that tipping is common on cruises. We have always tipped, but the tipping should be in proportion to the service received, Those who tip indiscriminately do nothing to raise the standard of service for passengers as a whole.
There should be no tipping! It's not a matter of the money, it's about being dictated to and being forced to pay money to people who may or may not give you service "over and above their normal duties"
A tip is not for a service rendered....A tip is for EXTRA service rendered. When did it become a norm to tip anyone just because they did their job? If the Cruise line want their staff to earn a decent wage, then PAY them a decent wage. If that means the cruise price goes up, so be it. I have no issues with higher prices as long as I have the choice of who to give extra to.
I notice there are always people on these forums who pass snide comments about none tippers, or people like me who wish to only tip those that have provided an EXCELLENT service. You can comment all you like, but just remember, with the current bad system... you are the ones trying to perpetuate it and having your choice taken away. Do you get a tip at work? I know I dont get tipped for doing my job and I have never tipped my dentist or garage etc etc..... Who chooses the section of society that must be tipped? Stop this stupid tipping now!

Ahhhhh bliss 2012 and the same tightwad questions are back,it doesn't take long...Don't pay them if thats how you feel, why should it ruin your holiday..feeling of guilt is it!! Maybe the staff will give you crap service so as to prove your point and not pay them...Happy new year.
If you brian from Manchester havent anything positive to say, dont say anything atall keep your snide comments to yourself, why should we pay their wages, PandO should pay a decent wages .
I did say something positive, i said don't pay them...and if its going to ruin a persons holiday then why book in the firstplace,people know there are gratuities wether we like them or not,fact not fiction...Brian.
The gratuities are not compulsory. You can go to reception and ask to have them removed. However, please think carefully before doing so. It is only to be recommended if you have received poor service. If all goes well, then why not leave well alone. It is much easier than messing about with cash in envelopes. Simpler both for you and for the staff.
I guess you mean the new system whereby P&O add this to your account? Don't worry it's just over £3 a day which in these times of inflation has never really changed over the last decade believe it or not! The same system has been running for freedom dining for years and does make it easier to budget for cash expenses and actually saves any awkwardness! I'm sure the staff will look after you well and deserve every penny - relax, enjoy!
