We took the Explorer of the Seas from Cape Liberty in Feb this year but booked cruise only. We flew for a good price via Virgin Atlantic to JFK and had 3 days in a Manhattan hotel whihc is definately where you need to stay to enjoy a taste of NYC. However whilst a yellow cab JFK to Manhattan is okay, most won't take you to Cape Liberty because it's in New Jersey and they are not allowed to collect fairs from there so want to charge for the return trip if they will go. We used a company called Newyorklimo.com - they are not cheap but considering they transfer you is style and comfort and you can incorporate a tailor made tour when you travel Cape Liberty to JFK it is definately worth the peace of mind. They have a UK redirect contact number (020) 7 993-8083. One word of wanring though they want you to reserve with a credit card but if you then use up your spare dollars and pay in cash on the day they may accidentally bill you card as well but they did rectify it and refund straight away with a simple email. If you fly to Newark aiport taxis to the cruise port are fine but you will have to consider the cheaper train into Manhattan for your tour if you stay in a Newark hotel and check tripadvisor before you commit because it is not the nice safer area that Manhattan is.

We use Supershuttle from Liberty/Newark. They are a shared ride 10/12 seater bus, about $20pp into central Manhattan, about a 20 minute ride. Just do a search on the 'net' & best to prebook online...Wilba

Not completely sure what you mean. Which airport do you fly into? Where are you hoping to spend the night? Are you there just for one night? Are you aware of the geography of Cape Liberty, by the way it is probably one of the worst ports to embark from, and what were you hoping to do? If you are considering a hotel on the Newark side of the water read up about them on sites like tripadvisor. Sorry to be so negative but answers would help us decide what to tell you. ......Neil

sorry ! I was looking at possibly taking a cruise from Cape Liberty to New England/Canada, maybe in October/November 2009. Understand that Princess & Royal Carribean sail from here. Would be flying in from Manchester - don't know yet to which airport. I haven't taken it that far. Someone said that due to flight times, it would be best to arrive in the USA the day before the cruise - so looking for somewhere to spend the night. Then after the cruise, I thought it might be a good idea to stay for another 3 days or so in New York. Have cruised before, but not to any of these locations. Tried to look at transfer costs on another website, but without a lot of success

If you fly from Manchester, Continental fly direct to Newark, about 3 mile from Cape Liberty & if you've not been to New York take Neil's advice & spend 3 days there on arrival & a quick cab ride to Newark on return from your cruise. P.S. Continental are a good airline to fly with.......Wilba

There are several options open to you but it would be best to wait and see which airport you will fly into as so much depends on that. You are right in thinking that it's best to arrive a day early and if you want to see NY properly I would suggest three days early so that you aclimatise and a hotel in Manhattan for that period and fly straight back after the cruise. But come back to us when you know which airport and we'll tell you more. ......Neil
