Having read all these - UNFORTUNATELY my husband and I SMOKE!!!!! Let's go back to the World Wars and footage etc - most people smoked then to calm their nerves during such a stressful time - smoking was the NORM. We live in such a nanny state now it appalls me. I agree with the person saying that others should look towards their own vices - also how would they like it if drinking was banned on cruises. As for the person that worked 100/120 hours in their own pub - all I wish to say is "well it was YOUR CHOICE" - you could have "worked" elsewhere!!!!!

NCL allow smoking in cabins and designated areas on decks. they also set sail from uk. i will not cruise unless i can smoke in cabin. i enjoyed O.Villages cruises but will not go with them again since all smoking is now outdoors. ask cruise lines for there policy and if it will be changed before your hol. date

I can reccommend Costa Cruises, the brochure says" Their are some non smoking areas, Stairways, gangways, lifts & restaurants". Have booked with them in Oct from Venice, hoping to have a pint, in a bar & a puff. From personal research it would appear that UK Cruise lines & any other cruise line operating out of UK ports implement a non smoking policy, Its open Decks only.

It depends where the cruise is sailing. Most RCI ships vary the smoking policy depending on if they are in the Med or Caribbean. However, when in the med, they still have inside rooms dedicated to smokers and also allow smoking in some of the bars and part of the casino. Well balanced some would say.

The cruise lines are just reflecting public opinion.

Fred does allow smoking on balconies and the open decks, most others have Draconian regulations! I don't smoke but the non-smoking brigade who spend most of their time sniffing the air for the slightest sign of tobacco fumes need to look to their own vices. One distinguished looking chap on a recent voyage I took was admonishing a pensioner enjoying a pipe full of baccy on the open deck, after I had spotted him leaving the toilet cubicle without washing his hands. It would be easy to provide a covered area at the rear of the ship with a few tables and chairs for those who want to smoke - those who don't could then keep away.

It seems to be to do with the fear of being prosecuted and no doubt a certain amount of bullying by our current dreadfull government. Do your research. There are decent cruiselines that will make you welcome. Just none that leave from this country. If you are a member of the forum there is some information on there telling you which ships you can smoke on and where and when you do book another cruise elsewhere, be sure to tell Fred why he has lost another loyal customer. Good Luck.
