Q: Im looking to go on a cruise as a single 46 year old woman and was wondering if anyone else had also been on royal caribbean and was it easy to meet other single people for friendship? Would prefer to go from Southampton and not have to fly alone. 3 answers

Hi, we travelled on the Independance last May round the med and there was a slot most days for single travellers to meet up. It is a very friendly ship and I'm sure you will soon make many new friends on board. Hope you have a great time. Regards Patricia

We were on RCI cruise last year and I'm fairly certain that they had a time each day for single travellers to meet up for a chat if they wished. These "meetings" were advertised outside the crown and anchor office on the Promenade.

Hello, there seem to be plenty of people who do cruise on their own and you might meet some of them if you join the forum on this website by clicking the top right hand button on the home page. There is a section there so that you can mention the cruise you are on and see if anyone else is going on it. There is a US website as well which has a "meet and mingle" section for people to make friends before they travel. Type .... "meet and mingle" cruise ...... like that and you will find the website. I've only been on one cruise but found it very friendly, you only needed to mention the destination you had been to, or the one coming up, to find that started some good conversations. The only thing about travelling alone seems to be the extra supplement that many of these cruise lines charge. However, if you ask this website to send you their 2010/11 brochure you will find some options for single travellers there on a page called "Going solo - a guide for the single cruiser"....Liz
