Many of the 'single' cabins on Fred Olsen's Balmoral are exactly the same size as the 'twin' cabins, approximately 160 sq ft. As a single traveller I found the cabin very spacious. Happy cruising Regards Jan .

Miller - Answered a Question by McCullough (30 Jul 08 17:58)

Why not try Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines? Their ships have a reasonable number of single cabins which, although not as cheap as doubles (per person), are pretty resonable. This line, like P&O, have a significant number of cruises from the UK (and from a wide selection of UK ports).

Like Lynn, I have travelled with P&O as a single on quite a few occasions. I have also looked at Fred Olsen as an alternative, but have found that the single cabins usually work out at about sixty percent above the twin cabin rate. Whilst this is good in the summer months, during the autumn P&O still offer quite a few cruises with single supplement rates of fifty percent or lower, and can therefore still be better value. However, to get these good rates you do need to book very early, i.e. as soon as the brochures come out, or soon thereafter.

This sounds good in theory but you usually find that by booking early you pay the highest brochure price, and can not take advantage of any late offers that come up. So you find yourself travelling with couples who have paid less for 2 than you have for 1 person. Also it means that there is little room for spontanaity.
