Q: Hi - I am due to do the Adriatic Explorer cruise on October 8th as a single person and have secured cabin 563 on A deck. Has anyone stayed in this or a similar cabin? I know there may be noise/vibration - I was wondering how bad it would be in 563 and how big or small the cabin might be - is it a double for sole occupancy or particularly small?

By the way if you are going on this cruise say Hi - it would be nice to know people going also.

I had cabin 569 last summer and I reckon it had less noise than the single cabins on deck 2 which are nearer the engine room. The cabin was a double but they were measuring up for replacing the single beds with a 1 and a half and possibly other mods so 563 might well be converted by now. They are a good size for one person with adequate storage space and the same size bathroom as a double. If they use the same plans to remodel the cabin that they use on Celebration you will have 6 deep double drawers, 3 deep single drawers and a double wardrobe all to yourself. On the Spirit Iceland cruise (13 nights) they had several meets for solo travellers, breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, drinks etc and these were well attended. In fact several of us arrranged amongst ourselved a set time to meet for dinner so that if anybody wanted table companions they were available. Of course the number of solo cruisers may vary, on my last cruise I reckon there were only about 5.

Thanks so much, it is so helpful to hear from someone who has stayed in a similar cabin. I am sure with the help of a few glasses of something nice and my ear plugs it wont prove too problematic!! I am looking forward to experiencing a cruise as a single person although if I am the only singleton it may prove I am being overly optimistic - still you never know until you try it!! I will leave a full review on my return in the hope it helps others contemplating taking the plunge and going it alone!! I guess one never grows out of reliving episodes of "love boat!" although from my past experiences cruising that is purely fantasy!!

Have a great cruise - yes unfortunately this cabin will experience some noise and vibration - but if you take some quality ear plugs from somewhere like Boots then it will be a whole lot better. Just use this cabin as your base ! For other singles you would be best seeing the Socail Hostess and if there is not one then ask to see the Cruise Director or his assistant as soon as you get on board to get things rolling !!!
