No Explorer does not have wi-fi in the room. There are 6 wi-fi spots on the ship. The cost for Wi-Fi access through your own laptop is: Base rate is $.50 per minute or choose from one of our prepaid packages: $25.00 for 60 minutes; $35.00 for 90 minutes; $50.00 for 150 minutes; I suggest you join the roll call for this cruise which is very activ.

We are flying from Manchester on Delta airways into JFK on 15th, and staying overnight at the Doubletree. I gather from reading these reviews that the hotel is quite a distance out of New York. I also understand that we have to vacate the shipo at 11am, but our flight is not leaving JFK until 8pm. Any tips on what we can do apart from sit round the airport? I take it you are also flying from Manchester (as you live in Runcorn) are you on Delta and staying over? Aldrich, thanks for the info about wi-fi.

If you have booked the package with RCI then they will take you from the ship direct to the airport I'm afraid. Everyone will be off by 9.30 latest. They do not do any shore excursions that end at the airport so unless you arrange a private sightseeing tour of NYC I suggest you take a good book.

We booked independantly unfortunately. I will email the Doubletree though and ask if we can do the same. at least that way we have somewhere to put our bags and get a shower before the long flight home. Going into New York for the day is probably the best idea, at least we might get to see some of it as we have never been before. Yes wee have cruised before. This will be our 6th cruise. We have not been on Royal Caribbean before or a ship of this size. The closest was the NCL out of LA. We have been on the Ocean Village, and Thomson Destiny 3 times although the first two times it was the Sunbird. It is great. Have you cruised before.

Forgive me for asking but if you have booked independently why on earth have you put your self in the Doubletree at JFK!!!? Terrible location. Can't you cancel that and at least get yourself a night in Manhattan. On the return why not do a bit of googling and see if you can find yourself a private tour that will show you the sights, take your luggage in the car with you and drop you off at JFK. I suggest you join the roll call for this cruise which is very active.

Ships Collide !

By Richard Smith

Richard Smith's blog

Watch this video on YouTube.I was shocked earlier this week to read a story of the new Seabourn Encore ship colliding with another ship.It turns out that the collision was minor and thankfully no-one was hurt but what left me wondering was how something like this could happen in the first place. The new ship was docked in Timaru, New Zealand at the time and was actually delayed in departure due to the strong winds there. The ship ended up breaking it’s moorings due to the strong winds an...

Balconies in the Arctic Wou...

By Ben Allsopp

Ben Allsopp's blog

Quite recently with the launch of some very exciting itineraries, I have had a lot of bookings for the Northern Lights and Arctic voyages of late and every customer has asked me for a Balcony. I feel this is because these cruises are for the destination and the clientele tends to be very well travelled. As people cruise more and more, by the third of fourth time- They tend to go for a balcony cabin and it is very hard to go back down to an ocean view or an inside from there. But the point I am ...
