Just comparing Indepenance of the Seas (2008) deck 7 and Century (1995) although it did have a $55M refit in 2006 and the cabin sizes are much of a muchness IOS 177s qft Centuary 170 sq ft and balconies IOS 74 sq ft and Centuary only 42 sq ft so bigger balconies on the IOS. Century will have 2/3 formal nights and the rest smart casual and is much more up market coming into the top ten of cruise ships its size no rating yet as far as I know for IOS. The food is superb on Century but will be fine on IOS or any other Royal Caribbean ship, but there will be a lot more big activity to do if that is what you are looking for. At the moment the two highest rated RC ships are the Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas both 30 and 31 in the ratings. So it all depends shat you are looking for in a cruise will make your mind up for you but you certainly have plenty of choice from the points everyone has made...Bill

I think age can come into it. Some 60 year olds would not dream of cruising with Saga and some 60 year olds prefer Saga to RCI. Bob you must be young at heart! ;-)

Celebrity is RCI's premium brand, so expect better food, better service, higher prices, a more 'traditional cruise experience' & a high compliance with formal nights. As Neil as stated....A Classier Act.....Wilba

It really relies on your personal preferences. There is probably more action and certainly a lot more loudspeaker calls to be active with RCI. Their food is less good than Celebrity’s and the whole demeanour of a Celebrity ship is classier. My preference has always been Celebrity, although Azamara, the younger sister has taken over for me but I have enjoyed many a cruise with RCI. If you find that drinking is one of the larger factors then you might have to change to ships with lower prices, I don't find that a big factor and the fact that I can take two bottles of wine on Celebrity and Azamara is fine for me. .....Neil

Hi - I have not done Celebrity but just had a fabulous cruise with RCI. The Voyager of the Seas is simply stunning and the staff are amazing... Drink prices very expensive which spoiled my enjoyment somewhat but reading some other reviews I think Century are the same. I'm sure many more experienced cruisers will be able to give you a better answer but just thought I would start the ball rolling! Happy cruising - Julie

Based on my experience, I would certainly say that Celebrity is a step or 2 or 3 or 4 above RCI. Not only did we have several bad experiences during our cruise with RCI Rhapsody of the Seas, (noisy cabin, bad food and service) but the customer service both onboard and from head office later, left a lot to be desired. For me it's like choosing between British Airways and Ryanair.
