Find Your Cruise
This happened to us on our cruise on 31 Jan 2009. We were expecting to stop at the Virgin Island, but as work on the port was not completed we had an extra day cruising. RCI did compensate us, so make sure you get reimbursed.
Hi to you, your right to have moan about not going to Tortola, I had this rant about this in December 08, it took RCC 6 weeks to answer my e-mail, they said that they can change the itinery if the port is not up to scratch, well it is for the majority of cruise lines, I think we are being well and truly shafted,
you can complain if you want but all you will get back is the same answer I got.
Were going in April also, so I hope the Prop trouble is sorted out.
I appreciate that you are disappointed with their decision but they are the final arbiters on this. There could be many reasons for not going in including the fact that the ship is a large one or others have booked the available berths or even that the others just haven't mentioned yet that they will be missing Tortola out. Who knows and as you say there is no redress. As far as the cost of drinks is concerned ....whilst the GB pound is where it is we are going to suffer higher prices against the US dollar and the Euro and several other currencies. It's all doom and gloom isn't it, having to put up with a day sailing around in the sunshine and drinking tap water Ahhhh!. ......Neil.
Simple if you are unhappy....cancel and try another cruise line.....vote with your feet.
I had to miss FOUR ports of call on a princess cruise because they were running on one prop(although they would not admit that this was the reason) and only got a couple of hundred dollars on board spend as compensation. I complained but got nowhere and they were really sneaky and did not inform us until it was within the timescale that, if we cancelled, we would only get 50% of our money back. It was a disgrace but, despite letters, calls and help from my travel agent I got nowhere so you probably won't either-sorry.Tortola is a fabulous island too.
Hi We are on Explorer in March and disappointed that we will miss Tortola. Having said that the ship is so big I am looking forward to actually having time to discover everything it has to offer. I always spend less money on sea days so there is always a positive. After all of this snow I am just looking forward to getting some sun.
Drinks will seem more expensive than last year due to the exchange rate, but I still think that they will be cheaper than what I would spend in the UK. You will have to make sure that you go to the welcome back parties etc where you will get free drinks!
