Richard Okill - Answered a Question by carver (14 Sep 08 15:10)

Formal is formal and no way can a smart shirt(?) and trousers be interpreted as such. My advice would be not to risk it, and enter into the spirit of the evening. A lounge suit is of course usually acceptable. Enjoy Asia. Richard.

If you wanted a more informal cruise you should have gone with Carnival or NCL but Princess still has certain standards and if you are sitting at a table for 4/6 or 8 you will stick out like a sore thumb and no doubt feel a bit embarassed.

M & S and Burtons in St. Helier sell reasonably priced DJs. Also, did you know that Princess hire out formal wear (see the Princess cruise site). All you have have to do is give them your measurements and the formal clothes, even socks and shoes if you want, will be waiting in your cabin at the start of your cruise. I know weight restrictions play a big part in flying from Jersey, however, my husband took his on our Princess Asian cruise, but he is hiring for our Australia/New Zealand cruise. Hope this helps. All of us, including my 17 year old daughter, had a great time in Asia and I'm sure you will too.

I hope you got my answer to this on your actual question about this. I keep trying to give you further advice but my comments don't get published, probably because I am recommending another site. Try putting in 'Asia cruise reviews' in your search engine and it may lead you to a site that is can be really useful.

Due to the time of year, November, there were very few young people on board when we were on this cruise. There is a teen centre with lots of video games etc., current films being shown in the theatre and on the channels in the cabins. There are numerous other activities put on during the day and night. We found this cruise quite tiring, but amazing, a completely different culture. I'm sure the two boys will have an amazing time, something they they will remember forever.
