We are also on 2nd sitting table of 8 on Sea Princess on 4th April 2009 sailing - when do you travel?
This year we were on the Emerald Princess (same sitting table of 8)and the exact thing happened. On the second evening we decided that the menu (caribbean) wasn't for us but didn't have time to let the rest of the table know so we went to the Crown Grill. Unfortunately a group of 4 also on our table decided they were zonked after the journey from Canada and ate early in the buffet - the remaining couple (from Portsmouth) were left sitting there on their own!!! We felt so sorry and apologised profusely the next night - they did indeed feel that noone liked them and had decided to go somewhere else. Needless to say if we wanted to eat somewhere else we advised in advance out of courtesy. In an ideal world people would advise the night before if they wanted to eat somewhere else.
To answer the question - no they wouldn't sit anyone else on your table (we have seen tables empty for most of the cruise before now)and I don't know how they organise the company at the table. We have sat with: 1st Cruise 4 Canadians, 4 British, 2nd 8 Bitish, 3rd 4 Canadians, 4 British - never yet been sat with Americans (funny that).
We too have been very lucky and got on famously (so far)with all our fellow diners.
Thank you for the replies. we are going for the new year 27 dec. we went similar dates last year ie for the new year and had wonderful time with great table guests . Wejust hope it wasnt a fluke that we all got on so well. a well travelled cruiser from us suggested we all moved around each evening so that we could all chat etc.we had a great time and looked forward to diiner every night but after reading sooo many reviews and answers we are hoping that it wasnt just a fluke that we enjoyed our dinner party meals so much! has anyone had bad time at dinner?/ we think we are sociable but who knows! This will only be our second cruise which we booked 48 hrs sfter our return so we are pretty much newcomers!
Thank you very much for your reply. we do hope we meet with lots of nice people for our new year sea princess 27 december . it was soo good last year that you know the old saying\\\ dont go back twice!!! WE never even looked at a review before so will let you all know at a later date! i e nxt year!! hope every one has a good time on their cruise because its nt cheap and we all know we have prob all saved hard to get on board. have fun x.
We've sat at tables for 6 and 8 when people have not turned up but I must say we have never been left on our own. As Mack says, most guests do give other table guests warning if they are dining elsewhere the next evening. On Sea Princess our waiter showed us the menu for the next evening so we could make an informed decision about whether to dine in the main dining room or elsewhere. There was one American traveller on his own for two nights in a row and the waiters asked guests on other tables if they would allow him to move to their tables, which he did. Sea Princess caters mainly for Brits in the Caribbean. You will get a few American/Canadians and other nationalities but you will more than likely be on a table with other Brits.
