You are only allowed 200 each either off the ship or from the canaries. You may however purchase more if you are calling at any port in the E.U Not Gibraltar by the way. Get receipts ffor any purchase in the E.U We have seen more confiscated cigarettes at Southampton customs than can be believed. What they do with them we will never know, but can only speculate!

We did the Canaries in Feb this year and there was a stall as you walked ashore in Lanzarote fairly near the port entrance who was selling cigs for £18.00 for 200 Marlboro....I thought I'd get them cheaper somewhere else and wasn't able to get any anywhere for under £31.00 so came home empty handed!!!!(they weren't for me but a present!).

You don't say exactly what cruise you are going on, but Whichever one it is, then it will no doubt stop in Vigo and Lisbon. These will be the two chances to buy your fags in the EEC, as, although the Canaries belong to Spain, they are not a member of the EEC and therefore come under the lower limit for drink and fag purchase! I am not an expert on it, since I am a non-smoker, but I would have thought that Vigo was your best bet? The customs back home will know exactly where you have purchased any items that you bring back, so if you do not want to risk having everything confiscated, stick to the rules! Happy cruising.

Thank you to yourself and others who helped. On your advice we will purchase them in Vigo or Lisbon by credit card. Thank you all again.

I think that you are under the misapprehension concerning "Duty Free". You are only allowed to bring into this country 200 cigarettes pp when they are purchased from a duty free source. You may buy larger amounts from a country within the EEC because then the duty has been paid in that country even though it may be lower than the duty in this country. Just keep your receipt. ... A Right Royal Caribbean Dress ...

By Hannah Wilson

Over the last few years there has been a general drift towards more casual attire during the evening on certain cruise lines. P&O and Cunard have done away with semi-formal evenings and now just have Formal or Casual attire while Celebrity have introduced Evening Chic which is really evening casual by another name. The latter is proving especially popular with men who no longer have to find room in their suitcase for their dinner suit, also those who hate formal attire when they are on ho...

Its Launch time again

By Lee Johnson

Lee Johnson's blog

I have been in the cruise industry now for around 16 years and one thing that I always remember is the excitement over P&O Launch. Normally P&O would release their programme for the coming year in March / April time (May at one time I recall). The new Programme or brochure would normally be for Sailings April to end of March (so this launch following the traditional path would normally be April 18 to March 19 for instance).BUT there has been a dramatic change to them whereby they ac...

Celebrity Edge is on its Way

By Robin Clarke

Robin Clarke's blog

So the brand new Celebrity Edge has now gone on sale for her maiden voyage on the 16th of December starting her Caribbean voyages where she will be based in Fort Lauderdale. This ship is like no other at sea with so many fantastic new amenities on-board such as the new infinite balconies which even I was blown away by this. The balcony itself is now within the cabin and has a separator if you wish to use it to separate the balcony from the cabin. You then have a switch that you can push that ...
