I've cruised a lot & have not cruised either ship, but given free tickets for a Bentley or a Ford, which one would you put in the bin? Cunards Bentley would be the choice of most without second thought! Premier League versus Division One!

Ballantyne - Answered a Question by Carnegie (03 Feb 09 22:25)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and then there is style ! If you look at the cruise reviews for QM2 you will note that they are rated 4 star or more then look at the Ventura reviews..........the answers speak for themselves. I suppose it all depends on what you think is dull but did Glenrothes not win an award for being the most boring, or was it ugly, town in Scotland !!

Ballantyne, Yes beauty is in the eye if you look at the pictures on the side of this page you can see for yourself that the QM2 does look dull, true Ventura has not had good reviews but we were on it before the Xmas cruise and had a fabulous time No kids and No Trouble no complaints at all and I would certainly go on it again. QM2 has had great reviews about how it is run they must have a better Captain than Ventura but when it comes to beauty Ventura wins. As for Glenrothes it is a beautiful town plenty greenery all around in fact I am surrounded by 3 different Parks. Crieff has nothing in it at all I normally just cant wait to drive right through it as there is no shops or restuarants worth stopping for. While Glenrothes won the best New Town Centre Award.

You obviously had your mind made up about the Ventura before you asked your question so as far as you are concerned, Ventura wins. However, if you are concerned about which ship gives a better standard of style and service to it's guests then QM2 will win every time ! Oh, by the way, when Glenrothes won the 'Plook on the plinth' award for 2009 the organisers of the award branded the town centre as 'depressing' and in a poll 69% agreed so where did the Best New Town Centre Award come from ?

I am more interested in the Ships as we save up all year for a good holiday I only asked because of all the great reviews about QM2 and wondered how it got them when the photos on the left of this site certainly does not look anywhere as nice as Ventura. Yes Glenrothes did win that award for being the best shopping centre 2 years ago but after the crunch started quite a few shops closed down. I wouldnt be living here if it was not a nice clean well looked after town. Honestly I was not expecting someone to start talking about the town when all it was is the ship I am interested in! I was not being rude about the QM2.

Having crossed 'the pond' on the QM2 last year I can tell you it has a lot in its favour, in particular the stylish service. Our cabin (B2 balcony) was just fine with lots of hanging space. As for swimming pools, though we went in September we only sat by the pool once as there was so much else to do. The Promenade deck is great, tea is not to be missed, and The Planetarium is a wonder. A liner is not a cruise ship or vice versa.

I agree with you. I have been on Ventura, Oceana, Artemis and seveveral other cruise lines. Looked also on Cunards site, it is probably a wonderful experience if you can overcome the class difference. But I must admit it reminds me of the Titanic. All browns and very drab. That is only my opinion before you all shoot me down. What suits one dosnt suit the other. Good on you for defending your town. Dont know it but your question was not about that.

You really are quite a rude person Ballantyne. There really is no need for your utterings on someone else's home town. Very childish.

I think you are comparing apples and pears to be honest but that said I have just come off Ventura and it is a fine ship-much better than some would have you believe(its my 9th ship so I have got things to compare it to No doubt you will get Butlins at Sea comments Can I ask those who say that about Ventura to tell me which Butlins they have been too (presumably they have to make the comparison) because if Butlins delivers the class and comfort of Ventura I want to go!

There has now been a u-turn on this and Carnival Corporation has decided to return the ship to P&O.
