The ship is lovely. the cabins are big and comfortable. unfortunately the entertainment is poor, although that really depends what you like. if you like robbie impersonators you will be ok. the bars are nice and the crew friendly. the main restaurant is more like a cafe. they have theme nights every evening and if you do not like foreign food then you will have to pay for la luna (which is well worth the money) or the bistro. it is a relaxed cruise soforget having to dress up, casual is fine at all times.

Some of the reviews on here are ridiculous - the cabins are spotlessly clean and the staff are the best we have found anywhere. So forget the nonsense - enjoy your cruise - we went on two last year and one so far this year with another two booked for Oct and Nov - all OV 1 & 2. And we're LUVIN IT.

Just returned from Greek Island cruise on OV1 having also been on her last winter in Caribbean, cabins very spacious and kept well, fridge, tea making hairdrier all available little more worn than 18 months ago but would not say scuffy. Food in Plantations ok but can be a little repetitive over 2 weeks, Waterfront much the same with a little more choice but gets very busy at peak eating times, La Luna good used it a number of times but has a £4.75 cover charge plus extra for things like surf & turf, didn,t use the Bistro menus did not appeal to us. Overall felt standards not as good as the last time onboard, saw some of the shows enjoyed the tribute acts but the resident singers have heard better however we still throughly enjoyed our cruise.

Ocean Village accommodation in my view is second to none. We have stayed 14 nights in the Caribbean TWICE on the original OV, and have loved everything about the ship. The crew are so friendly & helpful, food is good quality and plentiful and the entertainment was just that - entertaining. We look forward to the next trip 2008.

We have sailed on the Ocean Village about 2 years ago and the cabins were clean and well decorated as for the food there are different restaurants for different testes we found them all excellent from the buffet to the James Martin restauran.

I've been on OV1 4 times now - and had fab time on all of them [twice in caribbean, Med and just back from Greek Islands]. Cabins are spotlessly clean and spacious. More than enough drawer room and hanging space. Beds and pillows comfortable and you can ask for more! Food was good in Plantations and Waterfront and excellent in Bistro and La Luna [both have cover charges but well worth it]. Have recommended it to lots of people and will go again.

Fred Olsen and me! A match mad...

By Holly Crabtree

Holly Crabtree's blog

After recently returning form a 6 day adventure to the Fjords on Fred Olsen Balmoral it is easy to see why people have such affectionate things to say about them. Many of my colleagues feel the same way regarding Fred Olsen. It is just the feel of the ship when you embark it just feels like you are back home. Maybe this has something to do with the smaller ships so much more personal and so much more warmth than the larger ships.I sailed from Newcastle which was fab for me living in Leeds , o...
