Done it at Costa Rica. Never done it before and was terrified but it was great. Don't go with first choice though, they are rubbish. Choose a decent tour operator or book independently.

We booked on the Princess ship 'Caribbean Princess' - it cost on the ship around $80 (£40) but you still had to run the gauntlet of the raft's 'captain' pleading poverty throughout the journey, and how his only income was what his two passengers per day gave him as he was not paid for the job - virtually begging for a tip as his wages - and then doing the hard sell on some incredibly tacky bowls that he said he carved. But when he carved his name on one it was so amateurish it was evident that he himself had not done the carving. We gave the bowl to our catsitter who was duly under whelmed at receiving it. The raft trip would have been good but the hard sell and blatant begging for extra payment, after we had paid $80 for the trip itself, ruined a good day. We heard afterwards from a couple in their eighties that their 'captain' charged then $60(£30) for a bowl and then got a $40(£20) tip! - I could have cried for them.

We went gentle Water rafting on The Rio Grande in Jamaica . There was an accident when 2 of our party were tipped in the River. At no stage were we offered Life Vests. So please Check safety rules before booking and make sure they are carried out. Have a good holiday.

Hi Its hardly white water rafting, the one that we went on was very sedate and a lovely ride, we booked on the ship and went from Ochos Rios it took about 1h:20m on the coach to get there and was a nice day out, the raft trip was better value than the Duns River Falls trip which was only about a mile down the road road.

Cruising is for old folk?!?

By Lee Johnson

Actually no it isnt…According to figures released by CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) The average age of cruise passengers overall has fallen to its lowest in 20 years, and a record 1.7 million UK holidaymakers opted to take to the seas in 2016. So more people are cruising and it is attracting a younger audience.I was on board the Celebrity Eclipse in May for a 2 night cruise and there was definitely a lot of under 40s on that including Hen parties, which tends to be the ...

What is a Christmas Cruise like?

By Des Morgan

Des Morgan's blog

Hello readers,Well what is a Christmas cruise like? having worked on board Princess cruises for 11 years and been at sea for Christmas for 8 of those, I can tell you first hand this is a cruise for everyone! The ships I worked on were always beautifully decorated with lots of Christmas trees and garlands throughout the ship. The days leading up to Christmas a whole gang of people from shore would come on and transform the ship, to give it a really magical feeling. Baubles of every colour , tr...
