They tend to appear at dusk which is when you are heading out to sea so I doubt you will have much trouble from them. If in doubt then a Deet based spray may be worth taking. You can buy it from Boots, Superdrug etc and the 'Tropical' versions have a 50% Deet concentration.

No. There may be biting sand flies on some beaches. However the shipboard information will warn you.
