Rum Runner - Answered a Question by elliott (27 Oct 08 18:01)

Assuming you are cruising on Norwegian Jade, you will find eating in the main dining rooms and the buffet diner is included in the price. As is the small diner where you can get a midnight snack meal. The other "speciality" restuarants charge a service charge per person varying from 5$ to about $15. The most irritating thing about NCL is queing up to get seated in the main diners. You can book but they only pre-reserve 30% of tables so it becomes a bit confusing. Sometimes even the staff dont know what the policy is and this becomes an annoyance. For this reason I avoid NCL now for anything other than 2 night hops across the channel. There are hairdryers in the cabins. They do charge your tips automatically, a daily tipping rate of around $10 per person per day however you can adjust this by using reasoned persuasion at the reception desk (many people do). 15% gratuity is added to all drink bills also therefore, with the pound sliding against the dollar, you may pay more than you budgeted for. Check out some of the NCL reviews for more info.

There is usually just one restaurant you pay extra but others should be free. Most things are free except drinks and ice cream not in restaurant. There should be a hair dryer in all cabins, just phone the cruise company and they will tell you all this or ask for a brochure. The service charges can be cancelled when arriving on board go the the service desk and tell them you want to pay people yourself and at the end put an amount in a envelope for the ones who deserve it like, your room steward waiters etc, your choise. This is what we did on P&O Oceana. Don't worry just enjoy. Beryl Clayton, Birmingham.

Just been on the Gem- food & service was great .Drinks expensive The speciality restaurants- ie steak, chinese, italian, all carry a cover charge from $10 - $25 pp You can decline to pay the srvice charge but they are not happy about it and you will need to see a manager to get the cost removed from your acct There is a hair dryer in cabins .

My very first taste of Royal

By Isabelle Larder

After 17 years in the travel industry last weekend saw me step on board a Royal Caribbean ship for the very first time and wow, what a difference it has made to my outlook on cruising. Had you asked me a month ago if it was worth paying that bit extra for Royal Caribbean I would have said a few hundred pounds possibly, a thousand or more no way. Ask me now and I would say absolutely. For families I have no doubt that Independence of the Seas should be on the top of the list for your next cruis...

SPECTACULAR CRUISING FROM YOUR...

By Wayne Frieslander

Wayne Frieslander's blog

No fly cruises have now become so popular. Each year, as the number of people taking cruise holidays increases, so too does the number who want to cruise, but dont want to fly. There are many reasons why people prefer no fly cruises. Here are just 10 of the more popular reasons.(1) We live on an island! No matter where you live, youre probably closer to the sea than you realised. So, its probably just as easy to get to any of the major cruise ports as it would be to get to an airport. Cruise...
