The question is not clear to what does this $10 per day refer too. Also a little bit more on US vs Australia. The only one I thought it might be it be in reference to is your tips per person per day for the staff. If it is then all passengers can contribute various ways by agreeing to it before you join the ship at the time of booking; by payment of your stateroom account or finally by cash, but perhaps I am guessing on the wrong lines.
We did an NCL cruise 2 yrs ago and we stopped the 'compulsory' charge by just filling out a form at reception. Not sure if anything has changed since then.
NCL changed their terms & conditions THIS Year. The charge is now a 'mandatory service charge' 'Non Removable'. The only way this can be removed or reduced, is in the event of a dispute. Similar T,s & C,s as Costa Cruises.
We have just returned from a cruise on the Jade and on the day before we arrived back we went to reception and had the 10% remomoved as we prefer to pay for the service we recieve they are not happy but you do have the right to do it so stand your ground and refuse to pay it good luck.
Other people have said that they had their service charge removed in the last month so are you sure about this mandatory charge?from the reveiws ive read it seems many cruisers have been less than impressed wiyh the jade.
Read NCL terms & conditions. I didn't write them, they did. If people are 'less than impressed' then clearly they are in dispute, so a reduction or removal is obviously justified.
I have had an argument about the charge with NCL BEFORE we have even gone on holiday as a "service" charge was on the final invoice for our cruise in July. They said it is Mandatory and though they could remove the charge from the invoice it would be more expensive as we would each be charged $20 pppd on our on board account once we board.
This is not a "service charge" this is daylight robbery. We have not yet received any service to be charged for. These lines seem to be supplementing poor pay by charging us all 'service charges'. 15% on bar bills etc. What a breath of fresh air is Ocean Village. NO service charges, NO % of bar bills, NO tips. The price you pay is the price you pay. Tips are up to you. You will not even find any little white envelopes strategically placed in your cabin ! I wont be sailing with NCL and a few others because of this.
