When we did the New England/Canada cruise two years ago, we were accommodated at the Holiday Inn Midtown on 57th Street. The hotel was fine for a couple of nights and well situated - quite close to Central Park and Broadway.

It is very easy to do your own thing in NY, but two days is not enough. I planned everything in advance. We were very keen to see Ellis Island as some of my husband's family emigrated to the states via New York. Ellis Island is fascinating, it really brings home to you just what the immigrants had to go through to get into the US. We combined Ellis Island with the Statue of Liberty. If you want to go up the Statue (first level only) I would recommend that you book this in advance via the internet as numbers are restricted. This took care of one day. On the second day we booked in advance via the internet to go up the Empire State Building. By paying a little extra you get priority entrance, thus avoiding wasting time in the long queues. For the rest of the day we used one of the hop-on-hop-off buses (we went from Times Square). Oh, nearly forgot, on the first evening we went to see Les Miserables on Broadway. All in all, a fantastic two days. Sorry to go so much. Enjoy your time in NY, it is brilliant.

All were very enjoyable. Bar Harbour - Acadia National Park, beautiful, wonderful ice cream from a little shop in the town. Halifax - Peggy's Cove and the Maritime Museum (links to the Titanic). La Baie - Saguenay National Park, we did the Zodiac Adventure on the fjiord, very bumpy and got very wet!! Sydney - Bras D'Or lakes - saw bald eagles. Boston and Quebec - did our own thing. Probably missed some out, but this might give you some idea. I think, all in all, this was one of our most enjoyable cruises. We did an add-on at the end - two days in Washington which we loved.

Hopefully you mean 'Norwegian Dawn' as 'Dream' has left the fleet. All the NY Hotels that do not cost a fortune are mediocre in my opinion, and some that do cost a small fortune are not as great as they should be. However, NY does not disappoint.

I just checked the NCL web site (allways a good starting point) and they use six NY Hotels, dependening on what price you pay. Best ask your TA or NCL.

actually did check web site, unclear information hence my question. Have now asked two TA's including cruise co uk they are unable to tell me, they will be allocated nearer departure.....like wise i was looking at independant flights......i was trying to do the calculation of convience of full package against cost.....if only a few pounds difference why have the hassle of the running around let the cruise company do it....
