Hi folks, I have to admit that when I first heard about the demise of Island Cruises one of my first thoughts was for all of ye. Having been on this website for the last 9 months I knew how much time and effort you all put into answering questions regarding the Star & Escape. Big Thank You for that. I did a bit of research on Pullmantur and this is what I have found out. They do seem to rename ships however, according to Wipipedia The Star is listed on their future fleet as MS Island Star. All their ships are of approx. similar size i.e 38,000 - 45,000 tonnes, they offer an all inclusive package similar to Island Escape and their current cruises are of a similar price range. One bit of trivia - Their ship MS Pacific was formally Princess Cruise line's ship - Pacific Princess which featured in The Love Boat TV show. I am surprised that there is not more news about Island Cruises on this website. Regards.
Hi Jim, Sorry I have to reply in the negative. It is a very interesting situation this one and I too am waiting to hear the outcome of this reshuffle. I know so little about Pullmantur either so we must wait and see or be enlightened by some more learned person. Good question Jim. Regards..... Neil.
Hiya neil many thanks for your reply as you say we will just have to wait for the outcome thanks once again.jim.
There has been much speculation on various cruise forums regarding this
At the moment it would appear that the Island Escape will continue to offer cruises for summer 2009 under the Island banner but TUI Travel have admitted it is reviewing the Island Cruises' brand for the longer term future and have said 'No decision has yet been made'
TUI Travel managing director Dermot Blastland said: "we will review our cruise business and what is best; that may mean keeping two brands or going to one brand"
Incidently....Island cruises employs 27 staff at its head office in Brighton and 35 at a dedicated Manchester call centre their jobs are uncertain, English speaking crew of the Island Star will probably be absorbed into Royal Carribean and Spanish speaking crew (I cant imagine that there will be many) will be deployed to Pullmantour in march. It is likely that the Island Star will be renamed the ??something?? Dream as Pullmantour have done with when aquiring their other ships.
It is heavilly rumoured that TUI plans to run a new casual cruise line based on the Island escape for summer 2010 it will be a new Thomson/Island cruises Hybrid and would run alongside the current Thomson fleet but seperate from it, what the new line will be called is anyones guess?
More details should become apparent on the release of Thomsons new brochure due out in December.
Also Royal Carribean are said to be looking to expand into the british market using the casual cruise format so beloved of the Brits...So watch this space
Hiya you say that tui plan to run new casual cruise line basedon island escape for summer 2010.is there no info about cruises for 2009 summer on island escape or they just running what they have got just now when you look at there web site .many thanks .
It would appear that the Island Escape will still run its summer 09 cruises to schedule, but...bear in mind that the Island Brand is under reveiw as we speak and no descision has yet been made, so things could change at any time, hopefully TUI will see the popularity of Island cruises and The Island Escape and keep the Island escape as it is.
I hope this helps.
