Be careful...like alot of us...once you start cruising you become addicted!
Do you have any specific questions? If so, may be able to help as just recently returned from a week on the Star.
Off the top of my head... Honestly, how bad would you say the cabins are? I don't mind if it's tatty (well, I do, but I can cope), but I'm hoping they are clean?
Excursions.. We (me and mum) are doing a couple, but my mum can't do too much walking, so on the days we don't do an excursion, are any of the ports reasonably close to anything at all?
Eveningwear.. will jeans/dressy top be ok? (you did ask lol).
Thanks again .
Okay, will try and help. We have been on Island Cruises 3 times now and up till the latest trip we were very pleased with the cleanliness of the cabin. Don't get me wrong, the cabin was clean but not to the high standard we previously were used to, but it certainly wasn't dirty. We don't drink any of the drinks on the tray in the cabin but we noticed he didn't dust them all week long - I don't think our cabin steward was attentive as others. As for the size of the cabin, the latest trip had 3 of us in it and was no problem with the space, other family members had a twin cabin and the space was very good (We were on Diamond deck). I wouldn't say they were tatty.
Had a look what ports you go to and can only comment on Barcelona & Marseille. If they dock where we did then you will have no problem in Barcelona as its right in the centre. The main street (Las Rambles) was only 5 minutes walk away and if you want to do a bus tour then the stop is right next to where you dock. For Marseille, you have to get a shuttle bus from the port to the town (can't remember how long it took but it was only a few minutes I think) - plenty of shops there if you are interested :-) Basilica was at the top of a hill there (can get there by a mini-train) but wasn't that impressive in our opinion.
As for evening wear, yes anything goes! Jean's were fairly common for men & women so you have no problem. For the main restaurant's (Island, Oasis, Steakhouse) they only ask that men have long trousers but for the Beachcomber on the top deck its okay to wear shorts in the evening.
If you do think of any other questions, then please feel free to ask. If not, enjoy the cruise as I'm sure you will.
Many thanks for all the info Steve, we do appreciate it.
We are in Diamond deck and of course I will be checking the drinks on the tray ;-)
We have been twice on this ship and can say that the cabin was spotless the steward could not do enough for you there are quite a few ports which are near to the shops and cafes the captain usually tells you how far it is to the town center as for clothes anything goes get dressed up on be as casaul as you like but I am sure that you will have a fantastic time .
Thank you for replying. And many thanks for the info. :-)
Hi we have sailed twice on this ship. The cabins are a little tired but we found immaculate. Perhaps we have been lucky but we encountered no smells, vibrations or noise from adjoinig cabins. Cabin Stewards will do anything for you but are not in your face so just ask if there is something you want. We have had 2 happy memorable holidays with this Company , my 13 year old Son doesnt want to do any other holiday as he enjoys it so much and only wants to go back on this ship even though I have suggested others! I think its because the staff and crew are so fantastic, welcoming and helpful , you feel looked after even though this is an informal cruise so for those reading this who only go "FORMAL" take note.
go and enjoy and relax , we do and we feel better for it!
