I have just, 4th April, returned from an Olsen cruise on Balmoral and flew Stansted Miami with Monarch. My advice is to get to airport very early and secure some of the extra leg room seats as their normal seats are bad. Return jounrney is a lottery, with a seat allocation policy apparently designed to upset as many as possible. Many couples split - even when the seat next to their partner was empty on take-off!! Hope you get Thomsons, far more generous with leg roo.

I've flown First Choice 3 times in the last year or so to Cuba, Goa and New York and every flight has been superb. New planes with leather seats, above average leg room, seat TVs, reasonable food, free drinks and no queues. If you are with First Choice, I think you'll have a great flight. I don't have an opinion on Monarch though.

Travelling with children on Cr...

By Josephine Wright

Hello fellow cruises, I have recently been checking what it would entail for me to take my grandson on a cruise ,and of course he has a different surname , If you are thinking of taking a child relative or not then it might be good to read on and check out what to do to avoid stress at the Port or Airport for that matter. If you are travelling with grandchildren or friends children or indeed your own child but they have a different surname to you on their passport, you need to take precautions...

Lovely Eclipse Weekend

By Lee Johnson

Lee Johnson's blog

I have just had a fantastic 2 night cruise on the wonderful Eclipse. The mini cruise was part of my month long 40th Celebrations and was a little getaway for me and my partner. It is the first time in 14 years that we have been away without the children and although we missed them we had such a great few days.We started the break by heading down to Southampton, which is a bit of a trek from Barrow-in-Furness but I find it no problem by rail. I would recommend staying over in Southampton the ...

Fred To Enter The River Market

By Camilla Edwards

Camilla Edwards's blog

Fred Olsen have long been one of my favourite cruise lines, Braemar was the first ship I ever did a ” proper cruise”. When I say proper I mean not a mini cruise or ship visit as it was a 14 night Canary Islands sailing. In the last couple of years Braemar has been one of the lines ships that have started to do river cruising. Although in reality it is not really totally river cruising as the ships have been sailing from a UK port – Dover or Southampton.German Waterways sails ...
