Richard Okill - Answered a Question by Barker (24 Oct 08 12:05)

Hope you don't mind me answering as well. A great vantage point is the Royal Victoria Park at Netley, not a great distance from Poole. Hope this helps. Richard.

Of course I don't mind - in fact, I almost added - 'or perhaps Richard Okill' - truthfully! Thanks for your reply, think I'll head for Victoria Park. Regards - Janet.

Or with a good pair of binoculars from Lee on the Solent sea front, or best of all with a meal at the Osborne View, Hill Head now there's an option Mr. Mrs. or Miss Barker might like, I might even try that myself, thanks Richard..... Neil.

Sorry Neil and Ida, a Pimms on the balcony would have been well in order on this occasion. I regret, however, we will not witness this historic moment as we will be in Egypt. Maybe another time?

Neil & Ida Down - Answered a Question by Barker (24 Oct 08 13:51)

On this occasion I would go with Richard and say Victoria Park although you can have two bites of the cherry by first going to Weston Beach, Weston Parade and then on to Victoria Park. If you don't want to come that far I could also suggest Hythe Pier on the othe side of the Solent and lastly not as A of N suggests Mayflower Park because the Cunard berth is well downstream from that unless they have changed it for this event but Town Quay but I feel that that will be ever so crowded there. ... Neil.

Many thanks, Neil, for your helpful reply. As you and Richard Okill have both suggested it I think I'll head for Victoria Park - don't think I can run to a meal at the Osborne View! Regards - Janet.

I would recommend Hythe Marina for a view of the ship across the water. Then there is the Mayflower Park for the flypast and fireworks? Then hot foot it to Calshot spit for the best and closest view of the lot. Comment from Alan in London a regular Cunarder.
