The ride costs 25 euros for two people and if they get you safely down! it is the custom to give them a tip. They only accept cash and it is great fun..Carol

If you do decide to do it yourself, then check out the times allocated for the tour and work around that so you avoid the long queues for the Cable Car.

A word of warning. Make sure that you travel insurance covers you for the tobogan ride. The last thing you want is to have an accident and find that you are not covered.

Usu your ships shuttle bus but there may still be a 400 yard walk to the cable car station. A taxi costs 8 euros. A single to Monte will get you to the top. They also sell combined tickets for the cable car and Monte Tropical gardens. When you get to the top go to the left for the gardens and the sledges. I buy a combined return ticket and wander the gardens for a couple of hours before returning. I usually walk back to the ship which takes up to 35 minutes.

Get the shuttle bus from the ship which will drop you a short distance from the cable car, then just walk to the cable car, it really is not very far, and you cannot fail to see where it departs from. At the top you can see the gardens, then not too far off is the start of the sledge run, it really is a very simple DIY tour, and will save you loads of the hard earned.

Yes did it on our own took the water taxi from the ship into town (you can walk it didnt realise how close only takes about 20 minutes) and just a short walk to the cable car. The sledge ride is at the top waiting and there are taxi waiting were you get off or you can walk down hill back to the port. The walk down is a very steep hill but eaily done if your mobility is good. The sledge ride is fun Cant remember how much we paid but half the price of the ship excursion.

Really easy to do it yourself, the sledge down is really great, it is not dangerous and good fun. The sledge only takes you half way down, we then got a taxi back from there to the Market.

You can walk or Taxi to the cable car the walk is a nice 20/25mins you can get on the cable car or go up by bus( AT BUS STN ) and do the sledge but there is different stops on the cable car so you need to make it clear what you intend to do or go direct to the top and walk back down a bit to the sledging.Fantastic views and if your into plants its a bonus.......... its easy Bobby S

Its easy to do on your own. We took the shuttle bus from the port into town and it dropped off really near to the Cable Car then its a short walk at the top to the Sledge. We really enjoyed it. Dont take an excusion it would be a waste of money.

what no one has said is the sledge only goes so far down the mountain and you either have to pay for a expensive taxi or walk and its a long walk believe you me i had blisters after it lol
