Q: I have become allergic to airconditioning on board. Just come back from the Med on Queen Vic. Super cruise but unfortunately during the course of the 13 days my breathing became more and more laboured and in the end I was glad to get off the ship. Since then things have improved thank goodness. We have two cruises already booked for next year, and I am obviously concerned about a reoccurance.
Anyone else had a similar problem. I would be grateful
for any suggestions.

I agree with Malcolm Oliver, see your doc now!. Just done a first aid course, guess who had a massive reaction to latex dummy, and felt even worse with cars AC going home. Felt a right idiot, had to go outside and BREATHE, and walk back and fore because I felt so ill. Going for patch tests next week and been given pens to help the piriton along. LOL felt like a trout with swollen lips but DH thought it looked fetching!. Seriously though, I thought I was going to die just after I touched the dummy. Went to my dentist 2 weeks after and he only touched me slightly with latex gloves on but a massive allergic reaction again. It is very scarey not being able to breath or swallow. Do not be frightened to mention to anyone how you feel. I felt embarassed at my 1st aid course in case anyone thought I was making a fuss, but I now know if you are having an allergic reaction scream and shout about it. It may save your life.

Firstly now that you're back home, Please book in to see your Doctor to rule out any problems, particularly as you are concerned about a re-occurance on your next cruises. Then contact your T/Agent to see if you can upgrade your cabin to balcony (if you have booked inside or outside). It may cost a bit more but it will be better for you, as you can circulate the air by leaving the door open when out on the balcony.....Wendy

Your problem is caused by the dryness of airconditioned air. For some folk it causes coughing, for others its a little more serious. .......best cure is, with your cabin steward's blessing, drape damp towels around your cabin & keep water in the handbasin & perhaps a bowl or two of water in your cabin. ................worth upgrading to balcony cabin if poss. .........and check with your doc. ..............Chris

If you have a cabin with a balcony, you could keep the door open as much of the time as possible. If it is a ship with a lido buffet where they have outside tables, eat there. Rest of the time, I'm stuck! It is a shame - a difficult problem. Most hotels have a/c these days, so even a land based holiday could be a problem.

first time in an inside cabin in may on the independent of the seas after trying to upgrade to a balcony with no luck they provided wet towels and extra ice buckets around the cabin which helped a little.have decided never ever would we have inside again, with a balcony we leave patio door open a little and switch of air con.

You speak for yourself!! Me an idiot? Although the thought of being a 'qualified' idiot does have some appeal. On reflection - I take back my comment "... speak for yourself". Your quite correct - we're all daft on here. Regards. .... Grumps
