We are female same sex couple and have travelled on Island Star twice and Coral Princess last year and had no problems at all. We didn't make it common knowledge but as we made friends on board some did ask us and we were honest, they still treated us the very same. We even asked the cabin steward to join the twin beds together for us, we gave him a tip and he gave us a smile.. we even got extra chocolates on our pillows at bedtime, how sweet. Enjoy your cruise. Coral Princess had LGBT meetings a few afternoons also

Ive been on 30+ cruises now and have NEVER had a problem with any cruise line or passenger. No probs with beds being put together to create double. Im sure Cunard will be just as good. Happy cruising!

Of course you'll 'fit in'.

You'll be fine, Joyce. The ship's officers and crew will be particularly open-minded, as many of them will be gay or lesbian. Don't worry - enjoy your holiday and sod the narrow-minded ones who should be concentrating on their own holiday!!!!

My partner and I have been cruising the seas since the early 70s - now approaching 20 different cruises on 6 or 7 different lines. We have never encountered any anti-gay feeling. But then again we are not an in-your-face couple. We don't appreciate straight couples slobbering over each other in front of us so we keep our shows of affection to our cabin! We always ask for a table at dinner for 6, 8 or 10 and have made many friends over the years. Have a great time. (Incidentally, though we have never felt the need to take such a cruise, there are cruises specifically aimed at thr gay market, and on some of the major ships sailing.)

My partner and I have cruised many times and have certainly never been the only gay couple on board. Most cruises have FOD meetings, but frankly we are just happy to go with the flow and meet up with people we like regardless of their sexuality.

I can't imagine that it would make a difference what you do in the privacy of your cabin. I would keep it cool and not flaunt your preferrence by public display of affection, that makes some people uncomfortable whether one is gay or not. Just go and have fun, most people who use Cunard are a cut above the rest, therefore more accepting of one's choices.

I travelled a few times with my ex (same sex couple) on Royal Caribbean... now they are always listed as being homophobic as they dont feature any 'friends of dot' meetings in their daily newspaper.. HOWEVER !! -- we had no problems at all, the waiting staff were excellent and we met other like minded people before the ship had actually got more than 10 ft from the quayside. We ended up joining this crazy american crowd who dressed for dinner most nights.. and I dont mean tuxedos.. they brought full costumes for caribbean night and loads of alternative drag costumes (old ladies, supermodels etc) ... the group became a centre of entertainment and many of the waiting staff brought some of their guests to our table to meet us... My partner even put a notice on the noticeboard saying "Friends of Dorothy meeting in the male sauna at 3pm daily" .. ha ha.. this was not taken down by staff... on the last night in the night-club there must have been 20 of us all dancing together and some took their shirts off too... 2 gay guys from Alaska said they had never danced on a ship before as they felt too self concious... but we did get them and several others on the dancefloor... Many of the cabaret and show staff will be gay, and on this trip we made several friends amongst them...and still keep in touch... and try to go on cruises where they are working. I have also done cruises on my own before then, and just allowed people to know if they asked... and always had a good time.... I am not sure I would do this on an Italian ship or Thomson cheapo line, but certainly the Cunard Line is by far the most friendly afloat! Have fun and enjoy it... get up on the dancefloor in whichever venue flats your boat musically, and you will have a great time.. you will be on holiday after all..

Travelled on the QE2 last year and had a ball ! They even had a "friends of Dorothy" social every day in the bar ! We were more worried that we were in our 30's but that was fine - met some great people, had a Queens Grill Cabin which was appropriate!
