I recently dined in Todd English, every night on a return New York trip, because I did not like the Britannia Restaurant service. The supplement of $30 was well worth it, just to have the cheese board brought to your table. Seriously though the service is far superior, food quality is in a different league and the atmosphere unrushed and excellent. The only downside is the restaurants position which leaves a little to be desired and that particular tables cannot be reserved. Highly recommended though, well worth the extra and I'm confident you will enjoy it.
I have sailed round South America on the Queen Mary and did not think the extra cover for the Todd Restaurant worth while. You can have room service any time at no extra cost. The Lido restaurant on the QE2 is far superior to the self service on the QM. Neertheless she is a beautiful ship with many wonderful features. Enjoy your trip. Molly W Cunningha.
We recently travelled on the QM2-did not experience Todd English personally but two of our table companions did and were well impressed both with food and service. As far as having an evening meal in the cabin- eating space is VERY limited (small coffee table) that is unless you have booked a suite or similar. Wouldn't think the food would be very warm either.
Not sure about the Todd english, but you can always eat at the self service if you dont wish to dress up lots of choice and very good or there is always room service.
I have not eaten in the Todd restaurant but as to the 2nd part of your question you do not have to dress up for dinner as there are other informal eating places on the ship such as the English style pub which does the basics like Fish & chips (which were very good). And of course you can eat in your cabin at any time and I must say one of the best meals we had was from room service. Have a good tri.
On a 2 week cruise on QM2 we only had to dress up 3 times for the remaining evenings casual or such as a blazer and tie or even smart shirt and tie suffices. If this is still aconcern there are many other eating options available on this superb ship. The Todd English looked rather smart when we looked in.
