Great cruise. Flew from Gatwick. No real problems, although arrived at ship about 45 minutes late. Then getting our room and card organised took about 15 minutes, which, after a long day travelling, seemed an annoying wait. The room itself was good- level 6...  Read More >>

This will be the second time we have been on a cruise the first on the Sea Princess to the Caribbean for New Year 2008/9. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience with nothing to compare this with. I have booked to go on the Costa Classica November 2010 to visit the Far East and Indian Ocean for my husband's 65th birthday, is there anyone out there who can say some words of encouragement and who actually has enjoyed their cruise with this Company. I thought I had done my homework before booking this cruise, I had read in a brochure comparing all of the cruise liners that Costa where not the best but definitely not the worst. After reading lots of reviews that Costa are not good, could someone please put my mind at rest and hopefully I will not be wasting my hard earned money on a disasterous cruise.

We have travelled with Princess five times now and love the line. We have done one trip on the Costa Europa to the Mediterranean and Canaries and although we in general had a pleasant cruise, the Buffet meals were not up to standard although the main restaurant meals were in general excellent. Our main problem with this line was that all announcements were in about 7 languages with English always coming last. We were praying that we never had an abandon ship call as if we had we would have drowned before we heard the English version. Prinfcess cruises are now doing some very good cruises to the far East and I would definately recommend looking at their new 2009/10. Brochure

I call Costa 'Costa efficient' but only so far as the booking costs. Everything on the ship is expensive including the tours but overall it is still value for money. If your priority is destination their itineraries are excellent - we have done the one round Dubai on Costa Classica and have just come back from the far east - Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan - on the same ship and thoroughly enjoyed it. The quality of the tours and information given by local guides was very good. The food is excellent, the service staff lovely but I do have reservations about the Italian staff at higher levels in that they can be dismissive so if you have a problem just stick to your guns and don't allow them to fob you off. To be honest they have difficulty trying to implement some of the policies at ground level that are forced upon them from head office. The cabins are very big even at lower levels though need refurbishment as does the ship overall - but comfortable all the same. All I would say is if you are flexible you will have a great holiday as we did.

Dear Mrs Webb, you get what you pay for on Costa. We have been on Sea Princess and Costa is not a patch on them. If you go with an open mind and do not expect too much you will be ok. We went to Dubai and UAE with Costa and was disappointed with the ship and service but focussed on the fabulous destinations we were going too. I would only book Costa again if they had a particular itinery which other cruise lines were not offering. We are going to the Far East in November this year and have booked to do this with Princess. Costa do offer this itinery and are much cheaper but as I said in the beginning you get what you pay for on Costa and do not get the extra niceties you get on Princess or P&O. Take your own bath and shower products and toiletries also as you only get shower gel which is not very nice and does not lather. Hope you enjoy your husbands special birthday.

We cruised on the Costa Serena Feb 2008 and enjoyed it. We have sailed with Celebrity (who we love) and RCI. The food was good but not piping hot. They serve the best pizzas ever. Costa attract a younger crowd. Yes there are a lot of Itallians but then it is an Itallian cruise line!! If you drink wine or beer buy the "X1" drinks package. You get unlimited wine, beer, bottled water and cans of fizzy juice wherever food is being served, you dont have to be eating at the time. Just go with the flow and you will have a great time.

Don't believe everything you read. I have sailed with costa twice, first time on the Serena and second time on the Concordia. I found the cabins spacious, the ships spotless service excellent as well as the food. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever had on a holiday. Yes they are italian ships and the Italians don't like to queue but we just found them amusing. We found very friendly Germans on our cruise last time and I am sorry to say the passengers I came across who wanted to moan were American , all the English passengers we met had a great time and were all ready to book another cruise with costa. Don't worry you have not made a mistake you will have a lovely cruise!

Rest assured ,cruising with Costa will be well worth it, we have cruised with them 5 times, Victoria and Atlantica, on each occasion it has been most enjoyable. We have met people on board that have, like us tried other cruise-lines, yet still return. We have also advised people, and introduced friends to cruising with Costa, and we have yet to have any complaints, the service is outstanding, the food is not the very best, but we have been on supposed better class ships that were not nearly as good as a matter of interest, the coffee on Costa ships is much better than all but one of the other cruise lines. So look forward to an enjoyable cruise.

Please do not go on the costa cruise liner, they do not cater for the english in any way at all. They think every one likes pizza, and fish.they do not listen if you have any complaint at all,and you will not enjoy the atmosphere,as the shows are a little boreing. They charge you excessive prices for the wine etc,and its awful. We went on the costa magica,to Brazil, and it was the worst cruise we have ever had,and we have cruised 10 times. All the english on board had no good thing to say about any thing. The food was cold and like a cattle market when you tried to eat in the buffet restaurant in the morning and afternoon. There was no good bars at night, and no feeling that you were somewhere special. If you are wanting it for a 65th celebration, please pick Royal Caribbean,or P&O,or NCL.At the end of the day you get what you pay for,and you get nothing from the Italians.

Answer by MURRAY, Glasgow (14 Jun 09 13:01) to a QUESTION by Webb (12 Jun 09 09:51)
Having read some of the answers there are a few I would like to refute.-The waiting staff were lovely ! I admired their patience as some diners were extremely demanding .If you did not like the course you had ordered it would be replaced by something else-no hassle. There was a pizza bar which opened from 6-9pm.The pizza was very good but some brits were complaing they were too small! There was also a group of brits who objected to the compulsory gratuities being added to the bill. The majority of passengers were British, followed by Australians,Germans,Italians, other nations represented were of chinese descent so there was a lot of Asian dishes to be had. People who enjoy seafood were delighted, unfortunately I don't. Embarkation was awful as Hong Kong does not have a port that caters for large cruise ships. We had to queue in a shopping mall. However, disembarking was great.Costa deserve a pat on the back. Our flight was at 23.15 and as the transfers were arranged we were allowed to stay on board even though the next cruise passengers were boarding.I noticed that they were not being delayed. We got off at 7pm,effectively giving us an extra day in Hong Kong. The shows were good. The usual dancers, acrobats which will probably be different by the time you go. I hope you have a lovely cruise! Only you can decide if excessive pampering and chocolates on your pillow win over a great itinerary.

we were on costa classica in march this year to the far east.we were quite worried about it but there was no need. the ship is basic but nice.the cabins were spacious and always kept very clean.the staff were lovely ,everyone of them.the food wasn't as good as the big ships but we could not complain as we ate good all the time.drinks very expensive but we pre-booked the drinks package which is wine or beer with meals .we found this value for money as meals are served at lunch time from 12 till 3 and meal time at night you can both get a bottle of wine each and beers and take them out to bars with you after dinner.you can also get big bottles of water to take to your room.we really enjoyed the cruise and would definately go back as the itineries that costa do is great.

WE LOVE sEA pRINCESS AND ALL pRINCESS SHIPS BUT SAYING THAT WE WENT ON COSTA SERENA AND WE HAD AN ENJOYABLE TRIP.THERE WERE NOT MANY BRITS ON BOARD BUT THEY PUT US ALL NEAR TOGETHER IN THE DINING ROOM AND WE ALL GOT FRIENDLY.THE PEOPLE ON OUR TABLE WERE NICE AND WE HAVE KEPT IN TOUCH.THE CASINO AND SLOT MACHINES WERE EXCELLENT - THE FOOD WAS GOOD AND THEY LOOKED AFTER ME WELL AS I DONT LIKE CHEESE AND TOMASTOES I AM A NIGHTMARE ON ANY SHIP.WE FELT THEY WERE GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY.NOT SURE IF I WOULD GO ON AN OLD ONE.THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT WAS THEY MADE ANNOUNCEMENTS IN LOTS OF LANGUAGES AND ENGLISH CAME LAST.IF YOU GET A GOOD PRICE I SHOULD GO FOR IT.
