The ten dollars a day is non negotiable on Costa so budget it into your cruise cost & the drinks price is becoming an issue on a number of lines.....Wilba.

Gratuities & Tips Adults £4.40 per cruise day (£5.00 for Magica and Mediterranea cruises in the Caribbean) Children (4 – 17 years) £2.20 per cruise day (£2.50 for Magica and Mediterranea cruises in the Caribean) 15% is automatically added to the price of drinks from the bar and beauty treatments. Note: Amounts are approximate as exchange rates may vary. You are neither required nor expected to tip on board. On the cost of drinks someone reported a gin/tonic was £8.10 includes the 15% If you do buy drinks in the bar check the price list if you simply ask for a gin/tonic they won't serve you the cheapest so check the prices and order the cheapest or go with a specific brand.

Hi! Bill, Costa changed their tipping policy early last year & are firm about 'Non negotiable'. I have read of people who have had serious cause for complaint whilst onboard, but Costa HQ would not relent on refunding any gratuites.......Regards Wilba.

We have discovered from"inside information" that the crew do not always receive all of the compulsory gratuities. I was told that one member of staff was deducted £200 a cruise as his department did not receive all excellent comments on the passenger questionnaire. No wonder staff on the Costa Europa were unhappy and generally gave mediocre service.

Go with Wiba's figures the ones I got from the web are a bit on the low side, but clearly there is no get out clause.

We have just come back from the Costa Serena. The X1 drinks package is great, I think it paid for itself after 4 days out of the 11 days. At dinner we had 2 bottles of wine and 2 beers. What wasnt drunk we took to our cabin or the bars. Between 12noon and 3pm we ordered drinks around the pool with no problem on how many we could have. Otherwise the drinks are dear and thats because of the euro.

How do you get the X1 package? Is this something that must be preordered or do you buy it onboard? Are there any limitations to it? Can you use it at any bar on the ship? This seems like a really great deal! Also do you remember roughly how much it cost? Any info would be appriciated! Thanks in advance!

The world busiest cruise ports.

By Brad Smith

Brad Smith's blog

With 2016 coming to a close, and no doubt another recording breaking cruise year I though I would do a bit of research into the world busiest cruise ports and get some insight into just how many passengers these hubs handle. To be honest the numbers are massive!!I don’t think the number 1 spot will shock many, but the Port of Miami welcomed over 5 million cruise passengers. As a major gateway to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, with countless ship based there year round. Transport links w...

No I don’t mean Cuban Revolution………Cuba – One of the most enigmatic places on the planet, is suddenly becoming a rather popular tourist hot-spot, but more importantly a winning cruise destination, a revelation, one might say……..Since the recent talks of a reconciliation between Cuba and the USA, the country has now become a new attraction for many a nationality.Of course here in the UK we have been holidaying in Cuba for years, and although it’s...
