The ten dollars a day is non negotiable on Costa so budget it into your cruise cost & the drinks price is becoming an issue on a number of lines.....Wilba.

Gratuities & Tips Adults £4.40 per cruise day (£5.00 for Magica and Mediterranea cruises in the Caribbean) Children (4 – 17 years) £2.20 per cruise day (£2.50 for Magica and Mediterranea cruises in the Caribean) 15% is automatically added to the price of drinks from the bar and beauty treatments. Note: Amounts are approximate as exchange rates may vary. You are neither required nor expected to tip on board. On the cost of drinks someone reported a gin/tonic was £8.10 includes the 15% If you do buy drinks in the bar check the price list if you simply ask for a gin/tonic they won't serve you the cheapest so check the prices and order the cheapest or go with a specific brand.

Hi! Bill, Costa changed their tipping policy early last year & are firm about 'Non negotiable'. I have read of people who have had serious cause for complaint whilst onboard, but Costa HQ would not relent on refunding any gratuites.......Regards Wilba.

We have discovered from"inside information" that the crew do not always receive all of the compulsory gratuities. I was told that one member of staff was deducted £200 a cruise as his department did not receive all excellent comments on the passenger questionnaire. No wonder staff on the Costa Europa were unhappy and generally gave mediocre service.

Go with Wiba's figures the ones I got from the web are a bit on the low side, but clearly there is no get out clause.

We have just come back from the Costa Serena. The X1 drinks package is great, I think it paid for itself after 4 days out of the 11 days. At dinner we had 2 bottles of wine and 2 beers. What wasnt drunk we took to our cabin or the bars. Between 12noon and 3pm we ordered drinks around the pool with no problem on how many we could have. Otherwise the drinks are dear and thats because of the euro.

How do you get the X1 package? Is this something that must be preordered or do you buy it onboard? Are there any limitations to it? Can you use it at any bar on the ship? This seems like a really great deal! Also do you remember roughly how much it cost? Any info would be appriciated! Thanks in advance!

A mini cruise to remember..

By Ruby Perkins

Ruby Perkins's blog

I’ve just come back form a cheeky three night mini cruise with the girls so I thought I would give you a sneaky peak at some of our best bits.We were a large party of twelve with a mixture of friends, some who had met through www.CRUISE.co.uk. Some of us are still here but others had moved on to pastures new, so it’s always nice to catch up with everybody to see what people have been up to and what’s new in their lives. Not everybody knew each other which was also nice as we all...

Two nights on Indy..

By Alison Ranaldi

Alison Ranaldi's blog

Last week I spent two nights on the newly revamped Independence of the Seas.We sailed from Southampton in glorious sunshine to Le Havre and back. This was my third time on board this ever-popular ship and I was keen to see the changes to her after a big refit. We had a balcony cabin on deck 9 which had everything we needed for a comfortable break. I’m not generally a fan of mini-cruises. They offer an excellent way for someone like myself to see the ships but I do not think they are a g...
