Ida and Neil Down - Answered a Question by Scott (09 Jan 08 15:17)

If you go to the Celebrity Cruises web-site and follow the signs to excursions you can see all of the tours listed and their prices. You can book them if you wish and often the price is high but by looking you can pick out the ones that you can afford or feel that you must or ought to do. In the other ports you can either stay on board or go ashore on your own or with people the you meet an the ship and this way the costs of sightseeing can be greatly reduced…….Nei.

Be aware every taxi/van driver in every port knows all the cruise excursions by heart, so do your research on the various trips & then negotiate, negotiate, negotiate! We work on, if a cruise tour costs for eg 100Euro per person, work on about 120/150Euro BETWEEN 4 sharing a cab/van. That's been our rule of thumb for the last fifty cruises. Hope it helps Regard.

Thank you to Ida & Neil Down of Southhampton for their reply concerning excursions on MV Galaxy, have acted as you suggested, printed offered trips and we are thinking about it. This is our first Cruise other than Nile your help is appreciated. Given your experience do you recommend the Company Excursions or go it alone or with others? Martin & Sue Scott, Bristol.

A Port guide to Le Havre

By Trevor Smith

I’ve done a couple of cruises now that visit Le Havre but on both occasions, I chose to stay on the ship and enjoy the facilities there. Next time I think I will get off and explore, weather permitting. Here is what I missed and what you could do when visiting this lovely French Town.A Taste Of Normandy Unlike the rest of France Normandy is blanketed in apple orchards instead of vineyards. For centuries these apples have been used to make a bubbly fermented cider and distilling that cid...

Best Low Cost Cruises

By Michael Wilkinson

Michael Wilkinson's blog

Best Low Cost CruisesSince the advent of low-cost airlines, savvy travellers have come to realise that no-frills doesn’t mean no-satisfaction. Indeed, what is often perceived as prudent when it comes to air travel also holds true in cruising. Most British cruise lines would recoil in horror at being termed ‘budget’ so keep in their good books I will term them Low Cost. There is a wealth of affordable voyages available if you know where to look. Over-capacity in cruising hot-s...

Silversea was not meant to be!

By Barbara Hopley

Barbara Hopley's blog

On Monday 22 May I was booked to go on a ship visit of the ‘Silver Whisper’ by Silversea Cruises. We get invited to see ships all the time but do them on our days off as too busy to take time out of a working week. That’s how dedicated I am to see as many ships as possible as so much easier to sell when you have seen them.I had been looking forward to seeing this ship as have never seen a Silversea ship, it had been booked for a few weeks and I made my arrangements at home ...
