We travelled on the Pearl in the Caribbean in Feb/March 07. My husband wore his dinner suit for his birthday in Cagneys (the steak house). There are a few people who wear their dinner suits long dresses for a special occasion, or the last night, but generally you will be seriously outnumbered by the very casual dressers, chinos and a nice shirt would be fine. Skirt and top or Cocktail dress for the ladies. Enjoy L Williams, Morpeth, 15 Aug 0.

We have been on a few NCL cruises. We were on a back to back cruise and wore our evening wear on the first week and felt a bit overdressed, but on the second week felt very comfortable, so it entirely depends on the type of passengers on board on that particular cruise. If in doubt book into one of the speciality restaurants, in particular the french 'Le Bistro'. I don't think you will feel overdressed in there.

We cruised on the Norwegian Dream a couple of years ago over Christmas and New Year. The dress code was requested as 'formal' on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve and our party complied. The vast majority of the American contingent did not, but we took the view they were underdressed and not the other way around! YOu will not be the only one in a dinner suit. Hope you have a great holiday.

NCL's freestyle cruising is stated as "do what you please. There are formal nights if you want to get dressed up" In reality, this ends up as a missmash, some in formal wear, some in all manner of dress code. There is no dedicated formal wear dining room. I at times felt like one of the waiters.

If you feel like dressing up then take your dinner suit not many people dress up on NCL but there are still a few who like to. my husband now takes an ordinary suit rather than a dress suit, hope this helps.

Yes if you want to wear your dinner suit wear it - I have cruised with NCL twice and whilst they do not enforce the formal dress they have a "suggested formal" evening when you will find others in dinner suits. I had the pleasure of being invited to an anniversary get together on the Pride of Aloha which did not coincide with the formal night and many people wore their finery because of the photo opportunities - noone looked out of place! Have fu.

NCL have one or two nights when you are "invited" to wear evening dress. We find that only about 10% of passengers do so and the more Americans there are on board the more casual it is. You will not be alone in evening dress but certainly in the minority.

Staceys Port Guides Monte Carlo

By Stacey Williams

This week I will be talking about the beautiful port of Monte Carlo. i hoped to write about New York but my pictures are taking time to upload so I will do this next week!Monte Carlo is an area of Monaco that some would class as the capital. It is a very small place with a population is around 3500. It is an area situated at the base the Maritime Alps along the French Riviera. I would say that the place is most famous for the Casino and also the Grand Prix. The main districts are all wit...

Celebrity Edge Looks Incredible!

By Freddie Moser

Freddie Moser's blog

So yesterday afternoon I was lucky to attend an online preview of some of the accommodation and facilities aboard Celebrity Cruises most ambitious ship ever built; Celebrity Edge….I’ll be honest when I first heard the name of the ship, I thought it was an awful choice. However it’s since grown on me, and after watching the presentation, I now see the logic in the name Edge. You see this ship is first and foremost all about design and technology, so phrases like ‘Cutting...

Well I have just returned from my first ever visit to a River cruise ship. What a way to start!!! I visited the AmaPrima and Ama are rated the highest standard of ships in Europe according to the Berlitz guide.I flew to Amsterdam and we got picked up by a brand new AMA coach and transferred the short distance to the centre of city to meet the ship, the first eye opener for me was exactly how near to the centre of the town the ship was. If I am being really honest I really didn’t know w...
