I think that you are wrong with your thoughts and your attitude. In the past I have never asked my staff to work longer or harder than I did nor did I ever expect them to do anything that I wasn't prepared to do. We catered to the general public and whilst the people that we liked less than others were those who complained because they felt that was what they had to do the joy of pleasing people who showed their appreciation was immeasurable. You live in a privileged society and if you had to live in the poverty that some people have to you would, if you had the initiative, do anything to make sure that those you loved enjoyed benefits they couldn't have without your commitment. It is time that you woke up to the fact that you are in a position to write like you do and if you want to do more for people get up and do it instead of being so smug and hypocritical. .... Neil.

You don't mention banning Christmas and I've not noticed press gangs roaming around foreign ports. Perhaps its why we show our appreciation by tipping that little extra.

Where have you been for the last 50 or 60 years whilst guys & gals have been queuing up to work on cruise ships. If things were that tough they would have walked away years ago. Of course you wouldn’t know that as I don’t believe for one minute you work on a cruise ship, or ever have done, but just some eegit who writes regularly to this site, one week the swinger , the next the complainer of penguin suit wearers. Sorry but your whinging doesn’t wash with me….Wilba.

From what i have learned from the staff on thomson ships they are quite happy with their lot, ok its 12hrs/7days BUT to them its a lucrative job that gives them and their families a good standard of living back home, to us the wages are miniscule but to someone from say india/philipines whats that bonus £5-£10 tip worth to them back home, times that by a few if you are one of those popular staff that goes the extra mile and very soon in real terms they may be better off than some of us. why do you think you see the same staff year after year .
