Having just returned from a Baltic Cruise with NCL i can say that it was wonderful to be on a ship that was non smoking in all the public areas.

Not that I'm aware of. However I notice that some have changed there policy. For example I was on a ship 2 years ago and all bars allowed smoked on the prot side only, however I was recently back on the same ship and they had restricted it to only 2 areas aboard the whole ship and did not allow anyone actually sitting at the bar itself to smoke whilst at the counter. I commented on this to one of the crew and they mentioned that the attitude was changing but he didn't think there would be a total ban on that particular line as it was very popular with french and Italians. he did say that depending whether they were over in the carribbean for winter or back in sEurope for summer, they operated a different policy. personally i'd love all ships to be non smoking but then as a non smoker I would say that.

Beware of Thomsons as they allow smoking in the cabins.

Most ships have no-smoking in restaurants, lounges, corridors and most bars are half and half - what do you non-smokers want the whole world to yourselves? Long live the smokers we are far nicer people.

My partner and I cruised on NCL ship total ban in restaurants, bars and cafes(go outside). We are both smokers and thats why we booked cabin with balcony but we smoked outside on balcony and put cigarette ends in tin we had bought specifically. My partner even spoke to someone who was throwing cigarette ends over ship.We decide to smoke its our choice we know a lot of people who do stuff that we hate but thats their choice !!eg; band wagon jumpers, get a life , get a hobby, We're just off to kill a fox......

I am a smoker, we were on the Sea Princess this summer and the 'non-smoking'/'smoking' areas were clearly defined. As a non smoker you would be fine as there were lots of free seats!! Smoking was packed, so I think if business sense prevails ships would be wise to still allow smoking! I for one, would not go on a ship where I could not have a cigarette!! I also agree with 'Morgan' from Birmingham!

Smoking is only permitted on the port side of the ships, this was the case on my last cruise and i would imagine is still the case.Happy Cruising.

Peter Deilmann Cruises, who operate a small 6* ship as well as European River cruises offer non-smoking ships as standard. This is on top of great service and attention to detail too.

I didnt realise that you have to be a smoker to be a nice person Morgan, is the long live meant to be a pun. As for seperate bars for smokers I have no problem with that at all, as im quite happy for people to have a choice, as against a great number of smokers in the past who were quite happy to inflict on others in pubs clubs and more so restaurants NO CHOICE AT ALL. I have a number of long term friends who still smoke and have always had consideration for others. Thank you to Munro and Johnstone for your comments.

How loyal are you to your cruise line?

By Chris Halford

These days most major cruise lines operate a loyalty system and the more you cruise with them the more benefits you get on future sailings. Probably the most well-known is the P&O Peninsular club. Benefits range from discount on board to priority booking and exclusive on board benefits. But are they really all its made out to be or are we limiting our options by being loyal.Im going to focus on P&O because they are the most popular but a similar comparison could be made with other cru...

By Zara Kelly

Zara Kelly's blog

It has been over 10 years since I last visited Singapore, but my Mother in Law is a regular visitor. The main reason is to visit her nephew and family, but while they are at work she loves to go off and explore. During this visit, she was also treated to a lovely weekend in Bali!As I sat looking through the pictures and listening to the stories, I was amazed at how much Singapore has changed. So, I have done a short interview with Jane, who has also kindly let me share some of her wonderful p...
